Cleaning an infant car seat?

I know if I really put my mind to it, I could find the Graco Infant Car seat direction book, but you guys are right here on my monitor...

Does anyone have a Graco car seat and you removed the cover to be washed?  Why do I feel like mine is impossible to remove?  If you did get it off, how did you wash it?  I spot-cleaned it with Alexander, but I would love for it to be nice and perfectly clean for the new baby.

Re: Cleaning an infant car seat?

  • We have the Graco convertible seat (MyRide) and take the cover off frequently to wash it. DH usually does it, but I think if you undo the straps, the cover comes off fairly easily...hopefully it's the same with the infant carrier? Also, Graco should have their manual online in a PDF or something if you don't feel like digging through boxes to find it :)

  • I remember taking the cover off the the car seat and washing it a few times. I didn't look in the manual or anything, just took it off and threw it in the washer. I washed it in cold water and I think I just it air dry. The only thing that I couldn't figure out to take off was the visor-cover thingy (not sure what they are called, haha). I just spot cleaned that.

  • We used the snugride35 and have the myride 65.  In both instances if you flip the car seat over there is a buckle where the straps hook in.  You have to un do that and then thread the straps through the shell of the seat.  Once you have done that the cover should easily come off, near where their legs/feet are there are sometimes two small plastic pieces that "clip" into the seat and hold the cover in place.  I washed on cold water with oxiclean and air dried.  For the shell, I hosed it out and used a toothbrush with dishsoap on the straps and then air dried in the sun. They both came out beautiful!

I can't believe I missed this. I was struggling to get it off for probably 20 minutes and never even noticed that damn buckle. Confused I was awake from 4 am today so I'm going to blame that. Anyway, it is now off and ready for washing...Thank you!!!

  • I was just going to add DO NOT put the cover in the dryer and do NOT submerge the straps at any time.
