Anyone NOT getting lo the flu shot?

I was at the dr yesterday for me well check and they asked if I wanted the flu shot too... I said no... I didnt get my lo one last year when he was 6 months and able to get it in the fall... So What do you all do? Not sure the risks are worth the shots? If you have received it for your child when they were under 2, how did they react?TIA!

I get the flu shot every year, but I am a RN and I'm around sick people all day. I also vaccinate my kids for it every year. The flu strikes vulnerable people, mostly the very young and very old. I don't want my kids to get the flu if I bring it home from work

Oh and they did fine. They never ran a fever or acted cranky, etc. The only discomfort they had was from the shot and they are fine by the time we get to the car

Before I got pregnant, I generally didn't get the flu shot, mostly because the years I did--I got very sick; the years I didn't, I was fine. Could have just been a coincidence, though. However, since I'm pregnant during flu season, I will be getting one when my midwives recommend it.

I'm not really sure what we'll do once LO gets here regarding the flu shot specifically. It will depend on a lot of things: how much we are traveling, if MH and I have immunity, who we are around regularly, LO's overall health and reactions to other vaccines.

I've only received a flu shot a few times in my life. DD has never had one. DH always gets one because he's military.

DS got it last year; no reaction at all.

I get it every year.

I've had the flu. I wished for death. I will do anything in my power to avoid it.

We don't. The most common complication of the flu is time off from work/struggle of being sick or having sick kids. For some families, these are very valid concerns, but our family is fortunate to have the job flexibility to accomodate illness. Also, for some families avoiding illness and the associated risks is imperative for certain reasons. We do not have health concerns that make that true for our family, so we prefer to let our immune systems work it out when it comes to the flu.

Ditto tokenhoser. Until I had the actual real flu I never saw the point of the shot. And then one year dh and I both got the flu. Needless to say since then we have always gotten the shot and will do so for our kids too. There are lots and lots of colds for them to use their immune system on, the actual real flu is major suckage

I'm an RN and DH is military so we both have to get it. I would choose it for my son as well.

This is us too. Dh used to get the flu twice a year, but he never got the shot. I never had the flu until I was 24 (I think...) and yes it was miserable, but ...no, we won't get the flu shots for our kids. When I got the flu the first time, dd1 was 4mo and she was A-ok thanks to bfing. We also got swine flu a few years later and that was really awful, but ds2, who was 3-4mo at the time barely had sniffles thanks to bfing.

I am for my daughter because she is in elementary school now and I have a newborn at home. I will probably get it for myself but I wont be for my newborn because I will be ebf.

I'll be pregnant for the first half of flu season and have a newborn at home for the second half of flu season. DS goes to school, so he will definitely be getting the shot this year. (DH and I will too.) I just can't take the risk of someone bringing home the flu to a newborn.

I have had the flu shot in the past as well as my children. Then I decided to stop because we still got sick and was always told that it was another strain of the flu. Plus I really hate to put that in our bodies. It's really just a personal choice about what you feel comfortable with.

I'm a big believer in the flu shot, get it myself every year, gave it to my son at his 6 month appt, and he will most definitely get it again this year. He had absolutely zero reaction to the shot at his 6 month appt.

Not sure what you think the risks are, but regardless, the real risks are far outweighed by the benefits. My entire family gets the flu shot without fail every year. No reactions.

Neither DH nor DD nor I have ever gotten a flu shot. DD had some kind of flu-like stomach virus once that most kids at her preschool (most of which had flu shots) had, but I will never know if it was actual flu or not. Regardless, it didn't change our opinion on getting flu shots.

I got my first one when pregnant, and got one last year when Dd was 6 months (as did Dd). We will all get the shot again. H works in retail and I work in a high school, so germs are rampant. Neither one of us can afford to take time off work for illness (for any of us) so we will take the shot route.

Dd received her shot at her 6 month visit (I think, maybe 4 month) and she had a slight (100) fever for about 24 hours but that was it.

None of us will get it. I have never had it and haven't had the flu in 15 years. LO isn't getting several of her vaccines and this is one. DH has been a pin cushion for the Marines for years. He is done.

I'm probably on the more extreme side of vaccines (pretty much completely anti-vax, but will probably get DS some of them before he starts school). However, the flu shot is the one that concerns me the most. First, it's a yearly vaccine, and I wonder what year after year of it does to the body. Second, it DOES still contain mercury, and while they say "trace" amount, it's an amount that is greater than the allowed amount in drinking water! There is more thimerosal in the multi-dose vials than the single-dose, so if you're concerned, but still want to receive the vaccine, I'd make sure your shot comes from a single-dose vial! GL.

Never had the flu shot myself, I doubt I'll get it for LO. I can't remember if H got the flu shot or not last year. He has in the past, but doesn't always get it.

We have no strong feelings for/against the flu vax.
