Question, has anyone ever experienced "stringy blood" discharge at 18 wks, 5 days. Yesterday I had it when I went potty, then it stopped. Due to two previous miscarriages I called my ob and they said I can go home and wait to see if it gets worse or go to the hospital since its not normal in the second trimester. I chose to go to the hospital, baby looked fine, cervix was closed. Over all they didn't have an answer. Which I guess is good, they said it could be my cervix...anyhow called my ob this am and they didn't seem to worry and said will see you in a week or call us if it happens again. Kind of not happy with my ob now.
Re: Stringy Blood, 18 wks
I had bleeding around 16 weeks and was advised to go to the hospital. Mine was moderate and gradually lightened until it stopped 3 days later. The L&D doc at the hospital did a thorough exam including an u/s and everything was fine. My normal appt with my OB was on the 3rd day after this happened, and she wasn't concerned either. She basically said the hospital had already done a thorough exam and if it showed everything was normal, there was really no point in re-examining me. Everything has been fine since.
It's not always what you want to hear, but it makes sense. If nothing was wrong at the hospital and the bleeding has stopped, there's no point in examining you again. While bleeding during the second tri isn't normal per se, it's not uncommon. I've talked to several women since then who have had the same thing happen and all have healthy babies. I know it's difficult, but try to relax.

You were already checked at the hospital. What more can you expect your OB to do?
