Do you think you will grow your family again? If so, will Taylor carry this time? If not, how did you decide your family was complete?
Growing our family is a "hot topic" in our house. Our plan (haha) was always that Melissa would carry the first and Taylor the second. Well, obviously God had a different plan for us, which turned out to be actually very awesome. So, now it's like hmm...what to do.
We had changed donors just before we did the IVF. We have either 4 or 5 units left (can't exactly remember), but now our donor is retired. So, that doesn't really give us a lot to work with. In the past, with Melissa's IUIs, we always used two units, and we did either 9 or 10 cycles, meaning we used ALOT of sperm. So those 4 or 5 units seem like a really small amount.
We're pretty certain that Taylor will at least use them to try IUI at some point. The main question is, would we save 1 or 2 to try and do IVF if needed? Obviously there's a HUGE cost associated with that since this cycle was about $9k out of pocket. Plus, as much as we LOVE our twins SO MUCH, but another set of multiples scares the crap out of us!
So the long as short is, it's not completely decided yet, but we will likely be trying in one way or another. It's up to God what happens. Likely not until Melissa is done with her nurse practitioner program and Taylor finished her BSN, in 2 years.

The hardest thing about having twins is when only one of us is home with them. It is pretty difficult for one person to completely attend to the needs of two babies, fact. We sometimes feel guilty, like one may be more "neglected" if the other is more fussy and requiring more attention.
Also, along with that, watching the two of them alone is a FULL TIME JOB, so you cannot do anything else. Since we mainly work opposite in order to avoid child care costs, then the very few days we both have off are spent doing laundry, catching up on dishes, mowing the lawn--you know all the fun stuff!
With that said, I will say things are getting easier and easier to deal with as they get older. They're way more manageable now than when they were newborn. Two newborns is overwhelming!
What's the best thing about having twins?
I don't think it's possible to pick just one thing. We LOVE having twins. They are such a blessing. They just started playing with each other and that is so incredible precious. The other night they were laying on the floor playing together and giggling so loud. It was hard to hold back the tears. No matter how much work you put in, how much everything costs (it's alot), how much sleep is lost, we would never change a thing.

Wha tis the one thing from pre kid days you miss doing the most?
Hands down, it's traveling. We are OBSESSED with traveling. We usually go on a cruise once per year, and then take at least one other trip. Since Melissa was on bed rest, we went almost a whole year without even a weekend get away, and we haven't gone anywhere since the babies were born.
We're going stir crazy. I've never gone 18 months without a vacation. We're already negotiating the youngest age we will take them on vacation. The verdict is still out on this. lol.

I know you conceived the twins via IVF, but could you share your TTC journey before that? When and how did you know that IVF was the right choice for you?
Same sex couple TTC with donor sperm. I am 35 and carrying. Endometriosis and DOR. AMH 0.5, AFC 5-8, FSH 7ish
I know you conceived the twins via IVF, but could you share your TTC journey before that? When and how did you know that IVF was the right choice for you?
Well, our time from starting ttc to babies was 5 years. We have insurance, but they didn't cover everything completely and they limited the number of times you could try per year. We tried about 3 times per year for 3 years doing IUIs, always through an RE and always with frozen donor sperm, two inseminations per cycle.
Mel is the only one who has ttc so far. Then we took a year off and saved money and then did the IVF. We used two different donors for the IUIs, and just switched to a brand new donor for the IVF.
One of the biggest reasons we went to IVF was because the doctor recommended it. Also, because our chances of pregnancy were much higher. We just spent a lot of time praying and hoping for it to work, because we just did the one time, not a "shared risk" program.

Is that a pittie in your avatar pic? How is life with dog + babies?
Yes, it is. Her name is Maya, she is 2. We got her from a rescue. She was found abandoned on the side of the road with a brother and a sister. She is doing as well as we could home with the babies. Still very curious, and definitely tries to get lots of attention when we're trying to focus on the babies. It's understandable. I think she will do even better when they're older (and bigger) so that they can play. She is stubborn though and ever since they came home, she refuses to go outside alone.

We have not. It's really surprising to me that we still live here. I've always been a "spread my wings" kind of person. We do travel a lot though. We have both said that if this amendment passes to redefine the constitution, we will seriously consider moving out of state. It's mainly family that keeps us here. While I don't have much of a tie to my family, we're fairly close with Mel's family. We'll see.
