Ergo Baby Carrier

I want one for baby #2.  However, i've heard the infant insert is difficult to use and you really can't use the carrier until baby is about 3 months.  Any thoughts on this?  Has anyone used it from birth?  I've heard great things about the Ergo but this concerns me as I want a carrier I can use from birth.  Thanks.

Re: Ergo Baby Carrier

  • The infant insert is bulky. (I'm probably going to return it because it will be too warm here when he's little.) Just something to keep in mind, especially if you're in the Virgin Islands.

Some moms say they use a rolled up towel instead of the infant insert, but when your LO is really little and lacking head control, the Ergo might be tricky.

We ended up getting a Baby K'Tan Breeze for the first few months and then we'll use the Ergo when he's older/it's colder.

  • I have the Ergo and the insert, and as pp said, it is bulky and hot. I feel like it would be fine if your baby was born in the cooler weather though. If not, I would get a Beco if you want to use it from birth. The Ergo itself is perfect after about 4 months to use without the insert.

  • The insert is warm and bulky - but it was perfect for us here.  We used it from day 3 with DD in the Ergo Sport.

  • I'm one of the people who used a rolled up receiving blanket instead of the infant insert and that worked well for us.  I started that at about 3 weeks, but DD has always had a strong neck.  I stopped using the blanket at 8 weeks.
