I need some suggestions, ideas, whatever.
I have designated this as my winter project. Our house was built in the 40s (if I remember correctly) and really lacks storage space. Our bedroom is the entire upstairs, a dormer-type bedroom. It, in a word, sucks and I want to make it as functional as possible for the time we have remaining in this house.
The worst part about the bedroom (besides the teeny tiny closet) is that the ceilings are slanted. I grew up with my bedroom ceiling like this and would have liked to have escaped it once I got out of my parents' house. No such luck. Because of this, we have no headboard on our head and I can't tell you how many times I've scraped skin of my knuckles making the bed, bumped my head (use your imagination on how this may have happened), etc. The slant also limits us with dresser size. So I need to find a way to maximize what we have (in other words, creative storage ideas). I do have one long dresser and one tall dresser, but still...doesn't seem to be enough...especially since the closet is so small.
Second thing...I am going to paint it. I am tired of the boring off white (although which off white color, I couldn't really tell you) walls/ceiling (and because of the slant, they bend into each other). I need paint color ideas. Because of the set up, I really don't have an option for an 'accent wall' or say a white ceiling and a different color for the walls. And the carpet is like a darker tan. I am debating whether to replace or leave. It would be an easier decision if we did not have a dog...but we do, and she is getting on in years. If an accent color is deemed necessary, or would benefit in any way...I do have the option of the stairwell. Kinda hard to describe but the stairs comes right into our bedroom (I guess actually if I think about it, our bedroom may have actually functioned as an attic at one point) so perhaps the area surrounding the stairs could be a different color.
I really wish I could entice some crashers from DIY to visit our house...and redo from top to bottom. But alas, they never end up in NW Ohio.
Re: redoing my bedroom...help me?
DH gets This Old House magazine and I remember seeing ideas for an attic master bedroom in it. Actually here is a link to some of the ideas: https://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/photos/0,,20552566,00.html
Most of the ideas aren't cheap though.
For storage I like the bed with the drawers underneath. I think Ikea has a somewhat affordable version.
I lived in a house with a bedroom with gabled ceilings (it was my roommate's room) and he had some low drawers and shelves that went almost all the way across one wall. His bed was kind of out in the middle, but he was a single guy and didn't care.
This link has some bedrooms with great color schemes...again a lot of them look very expensive, but you might be able to get some ideas:

Thank you for these links...I think this will give me a great starting point!
