I feel like everyone is crawling if not walking... and I have a little guy who looks like a beached whale wanting mommy to bring him all his toys.

How do I motivate him to want to move?

Lol we aren't crawling or pulling up or sitting from laying. According to moms of 12 yr olds in my music class, 8 mons is still considered normal. 810 mon is average and some crawl late and walk quickly

My mid-December baby really, really wants to crawl but just can't get the hang of it; he flops around like a fish out of water. He can't go from laying to sitting on his own, though he is starting to pull up (once I sit him up.) He's a strong kid so I figure it's to be a coordination issue and he'll figure it out eventually.

DD isn't crawling yet. She's frustrated, but I'm happy because I still haven't baby proofed.

My LO wasn't doing much of anything until recently. She would sit up and yell for me to bring her things or pick her up. All of a sudden, within like a 48 hour period, she is now totally mobile. Enjoy the non-mobileness of your baby because your baby WILL start moving and when s/he does everything will change (including sleep and feeding patterns).

This. DD will sometimes scoot forward like an inchworm, but usually just puts her head down and sucks her thumb waiting for someone to get her. When she is sitting and wants to move she will grab for DH's or my hands and 'walk' her to where she wants to go.

FWIW, DS was very much the same. He didn't start crawling until 8 1/2 mos and then 2 weeks later was walking everywhere. My pedi told me they don't really even use crawling as a milestone anymore because it is so varied with when, or if, kids do it.

hahaha. this is exactly what my DD does. she will stretch & try to get it & when she can't, she just rolls over & either lays her head on her hands like she is pooped from stretching or sucks her thumb. sometimes she will vary it by clapping as if she is very proud of herself after stretching. too funny.

all of this except DS was born 12/22, so late-ish december.

Calvin has been getting up on his hands and knees and rocking for a couple of weeks now but still hasn't crawled at all. He has recently figured out how to sit up all by himself though, so at the moment that is taking precedence to trying to crawl.
