NBFR, but TTC-R

I posted this on the TTC board and it fills up so quickly that its already to the bottom of the page and has had one response. I figured I would post here bc I "know" you ladies and prefer your advice to "strangers."

My husband has sleep apnea and has a breathing machine to help him get better sleep. We are TTC and have been unsuccessful so far and I set up a doctors appointment for a fertility consultation. The doctor was asking questions about both DH and my health history and when I brought up the sleep apnea he said that 75% of men with sleep apnea have ED and their libido is effected. I can confirm his libido has been a problem at times, and the doctor said he could perscribe something to help DH with this area. DH was not with me for this appointment so I do not know how to approach this topic lightly.

Have any of you ladies had similar experiences with sleep apnea and if so, what did you do to help the TTC process?

  • Sorry, no real advice on how to approach your husband with this one.  You should try lurking on the T-TTC for a bit, then intro and ask your question there.  They have a number of women on that board that are dealing with male infertility and may have a better answer for you.  Good luck!

  • How long have you been TTC? If you are concerned that the sleep apnea may be affecting your husband's production, mention to him that there is a risk of that and encourage him to have a SA, just to make sure everything is fine. If you have been trying less than a year, just be patient.

I have posted there and the only response I received was to work out more, but my husband works out on a daily basis so thats not an issue. I appreciate the luck tho!

During the same doctors visit a SA was ordered and they are having me come in to draw blood during my next visit. Hopefully then we can receive more answers.

Because an s/a was ordered I guess youre asking how to approach your H only about the libido medicine? I would approach him about it in a way he doesnt feel pressured into it and as though its not an issue but the dr. suggested this medicine that you can have fun with. Dont say something that may make him feel like youre unsatisfied with him but rather the medicine will be like frosting on the cake.

If he doesnt know about the s/a you can approach him that its standard and they are asking for b/w from you and they need to test him out as well. Dont pressure him into it and let him know that as uncomfortable as it may feel, the office deals with men all the time.

  • if you are ttc he should be on board with "doing what it takes". I would just sit him down, tell him what the doctor said and go from there. reassure him that you dont have any issues with him or his performance but that this is just another step to helping you ttc. besides, he is getting some benefit out of it. :) remind him of that and think of some fun ways to shake it up in the bedroom.
  • I'm a little confused.  Are you concerned that you are not getting pg b/c you're not having enough sex?  If that is the case, then read "TCOYF" (taking charge of your fertility) and look for the signs that you are ovulating.  Or you can buy an ovulator prediction kit.  Make sure your H knows that when you are ovulating, he is "ON" whether he wants to have sex, or not!  To get pregnant, you don't need to have sex every day - - you just need to have sex when you are ovulating.  If your H has ED and that is preventing you from having sex / ttc when you are ovulating, then I would tell him he needs to take this if you want to have a baby.

If your h's libido is an issue for you b/c you feel in general your sex life is slow, then bring up what the doctor told you with your husband, and give him the option of talking with his doctor about it further.  Maybe bring home some literature on the product.
