So yesterday DH and I were rear ended while stopped at a red light. We were away for a few days on a mini-vacation. It wasn't anything too severe, but once I got out of the car I felt a pain in my lower back. I called my OB's office and they told me to go to the ER out there. We spent about 3 hours there, a lovely addition to our vacation plans. The doctor was going to send me home without checking the baby at all, as long as I wasn't having any pains in my abdomen, which I was not. He told me that at 13 and a half weeks, it is TOO EARLY TO SEE ANYTHING ON AN U/S and I won't be able to see anything until around 16 weeks. Say what?! I told him I have already had TWO ultrasounds, and saw the baby both times. He decided I could have an u/s.
We got to see our LO dancing around, first upside down and then right side up, kicking and fist pumping away lol The tech was really nice and she zoomed in on all the little body parts, and we got such a clear view of one of the teeny little perfectly-formed hands! It was SO CUTE, she pointed to the arm and then the hand and the little hand was open (I quickly counted 5 little fingers!) and then it turned into a tiny fist. Ahhh, so adorable!
I asked her if she could try to determine the gender and she said it was too early but she would try. She zoomed right in and before she even said anything, DH and I saw something between the legs! We have thought BOY all along! Then she said "There's something between the legs, but at this point they look very similar with boys and girls and I'm actually leaning more towards GIRL, if I have to guess". Now we are even more antsy to get an official gender determination!
They sent me back to the waiting room and then came in with discharge papers and said that the u/s looks "fine" and "no news is good news". Hmmm thanks for all the info. So I called my OB today and I'm going in tomorrow afternoon. So crazy, but at least we did get a surprise viewing of the baby and everything appears to be "fine". We also got a new picture of the head and torso area, and let me tell you, there is a HUGE difference from the pictures we got 8 days ago. It's amazing!
Re: Fender Bender= Surprise check in with Baby!
From the stories I've read, ER doctors seem like idiots when it comes to obstetrics. I'm glad both you and baby are ok and happy that you got a sneak peak at the sex! How exciting!
