(nbr) Has anyone had spider vein treatments?

I've always had tiny spider veins, especially on my calves from working retail in my 20's. After 3 pregnancies it has been awful; it looks like silly string has attacked me. I'm getting embarrassed to wear shorts or skirts, and I'm too young for that!

The pain and stinging is starting to really bother me, even in my sleep.

We just moved to a large city where there seems to be a vein clinic on every corner, but I don't have a primary care or new ob gyn yet.

DH told me last night to look into it, but I'm not sure where to start. Has anyone else been through this?

Re: (nbr) Has anyone had spider vein treatments?

  • I had mild spider veins starting when I was about 14. My friend works at a cosmetic skin care lab and a few years ago her boss was thinking about getting a...idk what you'd call it..a spider vein laser? Anyway they needed someone to demonstrate on, so I was able to get it done for free. It was pretty painful. Slightly worse than a tattoo, if you have any. But it worked great. Lasted a few years until this (my first) pregnancy. Now my legs are a road map. But I think regardless of pregnancy they would have come back, because I've heard that the results only last a few years. But I'm definitely planning on doing it again once I'm done having kids, even though I'll have to pay for it this time. It was such a great feeling to be confident in shorts for the first time in ten years. Sorry I don't have any info re cost or insurance or anything.

  • Haven't done it yet, but can't wait!  I would just start by looking around at the different places that are in your area.  Go online and see if you can find patient reviews.  My guess is that it would be considered cosmetic surgery, so insurance probably won't cover it, but I would guess places like that offer payment plans if you can't pay for the surgery upfront.  Can't hurt to call up and ask for a consult appointment.  Good luck!
