TTC After a Loss

Question for you tea drinkers

I want to start drinking tea. I'm not a coffee drinker and hot chocolate has dairy in it. I feel like drinking tea would be comforting for me and a way to relax. I haven't tasted many teas but from my experience, I don't really like them. I'm not sure if I've just tasted gross ones or what but before spending money on buying a bunch of different kinds, does anyone have any favourites? Or maybe a good "beginner" tea suggestion?

Re: Question for you tea drinkers

  • DH drinks plain Lipton, and I can't stand it.  I usually pick up a variety pack with some fruity flavors, and I like those with a packet of Truvia.  Sometimes I throw some honey in, too.

I don't drink tea, but I DH loves the stuff.  His favorites are Lipton iced tea and Earl Grey, and English Breakfast for hot tea.

The few times he has found teas that I have liked they have been flavored, like blueberry hot tea.  Do you have a store called Teavana near you? We have one in our mall.  They have all kinds of tea and ours has some you can sample.

We don't have a Teavana here but I'm pretty sure we do have a tea place in the mall now that you mention it. Maybe I'll have to head over there and do some taste testing. Thanks!

We have gotten most of our tea from Teavana.  The only thing you have to watch for is that they typically sweeten the samples, so you have to buy their special sugar if you want it to taste exactly the same.  My favorite from that store is the Chocolate Oolong!

I'm a huge fan of mint tea -- especially mint iced tea.  I make it myself using fresh mint (it's super easy so let me know and I'll tell how I do it).

Thanks for the offer but I really don't like mint. I think it's really cool that you make your own though!

  • I am a coffee drinker mostly, but do enjoy my tea as well on occaision (and while I was pg I drank decaf herbal tea a lot). For blends, my fav is probably Constant Comment (comes in reg. and decaf). If you're trying to avoid dairy, I'm not sure what to tell you though as I take mine with cream and sugar. Are you trying to avoid just dairy? Perhaps you could try it with soy or almond milk instead? I don't really like just plain herbal tea, unless it's peppermint. That I will drink by itself with just honey or sugar. Otherwise, it's cream and sugar for me (or in my case milk and splenda).

  • I love tea!  I drink mostly black tea with a splash of soy milk & honey.  My favorites are the flavored black teas, and I allow myself one cup per day while TTC, then I switch to decaf after a BFP.  Flavors of tea that I particularly like: chai, vanilla, earl grey, apricot.  And coconut green tea.

If you like hot chocolate, why not try it with soy or almond milk?  I make it that way in the winter for DH.  (I'm not so into hot chocolate myself.)

  • I usually drink Twinings Earl Grey and English Breakfast Tea. I also like Tazo Zen, which is a green tea. We have a Kuerig, so we we have a million k-cups laying around.

If you can get a sample pack that would be helpful. You could sample a bunch of different kinds.

  • I like Earl Grey but I like to drink it with milk.

I also like Mint tea, although I hate all other things mint - the trick is to always use fresh mint leaves.

I have changed some of my tea selection since we started to TTC to decaf versions, but it's not a bad idea to go to a tea place for some sampling.

  • So I may be a tea addict - we seriously have about 13 boxes of different kinds of tea in our cabinet Smile My suggestion would be to check out lipton's vanilla caramel truffle tea and Celestial Seasonings' fruit teas. In the summer I make gallon pitchers of each of these and put it in the fridge - I actually have a big glass in front of me right now. Stevia also helps if you like sweet drinks.

If you are ever in Boulder you should check out the Celestial Seasonings Factory, the tour is pretty awesome (and free!).

  • I love camomille tea if I just need to get cozy or comfortable. It's very soothing. Green tea is also very calming and doesn't have intense flavor (good to try for beginners). Sometimes, I just love to steep lemon in hot water with some honey too.

Another favorite is the Passion tea from Starbucks but that's more for iced tea when I have it.

If I am going to splurge, I LOVE Seattle's Market Spice Tea. It's like a cinnamon orange tea, which just feels SO perfect for fall and winter! Oooo, I may just go make a cup right now. That sounds so good!

  • I buy my tea online from David's Tea, there's not one where I live, but there might be one in your area? My fave is called Glitter and Gold, it's a black tea with a cinnamon flavour and it's actually glittery. I also like fuity teas. the bulk barn is good place to pick up loose leaf teas as well. You can try some different ones and they're pretty inexpensive. I like green tea with honey in it too.
