Diva cup??

I am in the midst of my second post partum period and I have NEVER experienced this much bleeding in my life.  I'm talking about it overflowing a tampon in 15 minutes and running over the super absorbent pad and pouring down my legs every time I stand up. It's terrifying.

I talked to my doctor and he prescribed some meds that are supposed to slow it down.  So far, no good.

Has anyone else experienced this post partum misery?  I talked to some singleton mom friends of mine and none of them seem to know what I'm talking about.  They look at me like I'm crazy.

Anyway, has anyone tried a diva cup?  Someone recommended one, but before I spend almost $30 on one I want some other feedback.

Re: Diva cup??

  • I've used a diva cup for years, pre and post partum.  I love it, but I always hated tampons.  It's been years since I've used a tampon, but I would say it definitely holds more?  In the heavy days of my periods I need to empty it every four hours.  Maybe you could get an hour out of it?

  • My first few postpartum periods were like, overflowing my OB super plus tampons in a single hour. It slowed down. I used to LOVE my Diva Cup, but then I started getting yeast infections every time I used it, no matter how much I boiled and washed it.

  • My periods had gotten equally unmanageable, and I was overflowing my Diva Cup every 2 hours on my heavy days (while bleeding in some form or fashion for ~21 days/month).  I got an IUD to help with the heavy bleeding - it has helped.  I no longer need to empty my cup but once or twice a day.  But I still bleed for 21 days.

If you're spending $30 on tampons, why not give the Diva Cup a try for the same price?  There IS a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it I bet you'll be hooked.  FWIW, I could always tell when I was about to or had just started overflowing it, so I'd hightail it to the bathroom and take care of it.

  • I used a diva cup between having DS and DDs. I loved it. Unfortunately, after the last pregnancy, it doesn't work for me any more (wrong size I guess). I plan to try another brand in a few months. I'm just waiting a bit to see if things return to normal down there.

I found this comparison chart helpful:

  • No advice on the diva cup but you're really scaring me about PP periods. My pre-pregnancy periods were always really heavy and long. I'm scared about what they'll be like now.

  • That's really frightening :(

I have no feedback to offer on the diva cup... just make sure you're eating a lot of protein and iron rich food and stay hydrated.... if you start fainting, I think maybe getting another opinion or even going in to the ER would be a good idea. That much bleeding isn't safe..

  • Diva cup > Tampons. Get one! It took a cycle for me to get used to it but it's seriously awesome.
