PPD and Zoloft (question from a FTM)

I am fighting PPD and was put on Zoloft.  It's been a week with no change, but I know it can take up to three weeks for any real improvement.  My concern is that perhaps I need something stronger or different now.  I have started to have anxiety attacks more often since being on the Zoloft.  I am going to call and find out what my doc thinks, but wanted to see if any of you have any insight:  How long were you on medication before it helped?  Did it get worse before it got better?  Did you need something separate for anxiety?

TIA!

If your anxiety is getting worse I would call but if it's only been a week they may want you to see if it gets any better depending on how bad it is. For me it took some time to figure out the right meds and combination for me. I started on Wellbutrin SR (twice a day) with no results. Now I am on Wellbutrin XL and zoloft. Both working together have made a huge difference. I noticed a difference within a week or so. I have been on Wellbutrin XL before and it made me anxious/jittery so that is why I am also on Zoloft. It makes a HUGE difference.

With all that said, I would call and see what they say. I was originally being treated by my OB. They told me if the Wellbutrin SR increase they did didn't work that I should go to a Psychiatrist so they could help find the right thing. And that's what I did and I am SO glad!

I hope you feel better soon! I know it's tough because there is a waiting period before you feel better and sometimes it isn't as quick as you want. Just know that there is something that will work it just make take some time to get it right.

Definately touch base with you doc and if you are not seeing a psychiatrist, ask for a referral from your primary care doc.  I think all ladies with PPD should see a specialist. And the panic attacks can be a painful side effect that your doc should know about.

With my first, I took zoloft (because it's safe for breastfeeding). My doc upped my dose twice - once because I wasn't feeling much better and once because starting back to work sucked. You might need a different medication or an additional medication. GL
