i do a music class w/ DD and sometimes the teacher calls her the correct name- isabella but then other times she calls her isabelle. i never know what to do b/c it's in the middle of a song where she goes around & says hello to each child so it feels weird to yell out "no it's isabella!!!" LOL. i usually just ignore it & don't say anything b/c like i said sometimes she does call her the right name.
i am such a wimp. i could probably easily just go up to her & say "hey, just to let you know her name is isabella, not isabelle" before the class but for some reason doing that scares me. what is wrong with me!
Re: how do you handle when someone calls LO the wrong name?
Matthew is not even remotely close to his name! The only thing it has are the 1st 2 letters. Wow she's bright!
When DS was in the hospital this last time, there is a lady that brings food into the room and she said how cute SHE was over and over again. I know he's not wearing anything but a diaper, but he's on a blue blanket. If you're not sure, don't guess. Just like if you're not sure she's pregnant, don't ask when she's due!
People always want to shorten DS's name to Will, and it's not Will (or any other nickname variation), it's William.
Name accuracy is important to me, so if people shorten it, I just say "William" right after. But in your situation, I probably wouldn't bring it up during class but would definitely mention it after. Otherwise I'd constantly be in a state of irritation and that's just not right.
My Blog
I have an older sister (we are 2 years apart). My teachers constantly called me by her name. It was annoying but it's not the worst thing. I finally just started having people call me by my last name. Seemed to solve the problem.
If it is an honest mistake, I would either ignore it or just politely correct them.
HOWEVER...if you are DH's judgemental aunt and you simply hate the name Atticus so you decide to call him AJ, well then you can bite me! LOL
I try and use his name again and hope they catch on.
LO is Riley...when we took him for his 6 month photos the photographer asked his name, then repeated it back... Oh good, she got it. Nope...5 minutes in she was calling "Briley....B-b-b-b-briley" trying to get his attention. I said "oh, it's RRRiley. She repeated it back as Riley then 5 minutes later was calling him "Briley" again. Drove DH nuts! If her pictures weren't so cute I'd probably find another photographer out of annoyance. But heck, she only sees him every 3 months and when LO is old enough he'll correct her himself---then maybe she'll learn.
ETA---Oh yeah, and "Briley" did make me gag a bit.
