17 week appointment

I had my 17 week appointment with my OB this morning. Got all the lab work from all genetic testing and blood testing. Down Syndrome and other Genetic odds were 1 in 40,000. He said it doesn't get better than that. So, whohoo!
He wasn't concerned that I haven't gained weight yet.

Go back in 3 weeks for more thorough anatomy scan. I told him we were told at 14w6d anatomy scan that it was two boys. He said "it may very well be. but don't give up any thoughts that one could be a girl still". Both babies in our last scan surely looked like boys, even to me. But I'll cross my fingers that I still may get ONE little girl. :)

Also, he cleared me to use OTC topical pimple cream and get highlights in my hair! THANK GOD... I'm needing a little self...pampering??? I'm looking pretty rough lately.

  • Wonderful news! Just curiously, I was told by my MFM office that no bloodwork for DS or anything could be done because they would never know what twin (if it came back positive). Did yours say anything specific? I'm interested....

  • For our NT scan we were told the results would not be as accurate for twins as they take an average of your blood test results for each baby.  The only thing that will change the odds is the actual scan and measurements.  They did tell us they cannot determine which twin produced how much of what enzyme and that was the reason for the average.

    I hope that helps.

    Tia,

My husband has a better memory for these "technical" things than I do, but if I remember right, the Dr told us if there was any chance that came back in my lab work for any of these abnormalities, that's when they would do the amniocentesis to test to see which twin it may be.
