WYT of these baby girl names?

We are team green but have a boys name picked out. We are stuck on the girls name and would love some anonymous opinions (since we aren't sharing until birth, I don't want to ask anyone IRL).

DD's name is Lilah. When she was about 3 months old I realized I loved the name Lola and sort of kicked myself for not using it : )  So, I super duper love Lola still, but am not sure I can get past the matchy-matchiness to it.

Our other contenders are Cora (though it is apparently getting popular, which I wanted to avoid), and Coral.

I'm looking for opinions and alternative suggestions! I prefer short names and really prefer "words" rather than names (like colors, nature words, spices, etc). I want something that is not trending. So far nothing can compare to Cora or Lola for me (DH prefers Coral to Cora).

Oh, also, DD (3 y/o) suggested a word she made up that turned out to be an actual (beautiful) name.... Aloria.   Thoughts on that one too?

Thanks ladies! I am avoiding the baby names board on purpose, btw.

  • Out of all of your names I actually really like the one your daughter came up with! I have never heard of it. Honestly, I avoided words for names when I picked, so I will be no help on suggestions for you. Have you looked up under finding baby names? I'm pretty sure they have a category for what you are looking for. Good luck!

  • Love the name Lilah, so pretty!

Lola is a bit too matchy-matchy. I like Cora over Coral, and I think Aloria is pretty. Have you thought of Aria?

  • Cora is definitely top on my list if I have another girl. I think it's equally as popular as Lilah, so I wouldn't let the fact that it's trending sway you. I don't think either name is going to break the top 10 though so it's not like they're going to have 5 kids named Lilah/Cora in their class. I also like Lilah a lot more than Lola, so I think you made the right choice there. Smile

Not so popular girls names: Aurelie/Aurelia, Elisa, Carys, Anneliese, Lorelei, Hallie, Leighton, Margot, Mara.

  • I really like Cora...not so much Coral.  What about Cordelia (that was on our short list)?  I like Aliora...I know someone with an Elora which I also like a lot.  My grandmother was Leora - old fashioned and definitely not common but I like it ;)
  • Thanks for all of your opinions and suggestions ladies! I definitely prefer Cora to Coral, but DH isn't quite on board. When DD was born we didn't know of any other Lilah's and I dont remember seeing it mentioned on the Bump at all, so it was sort of trending without me knowing. I wish I stayed off the bump this time because then I wouldn't haven't known that Cora was getting popular and it wouldn't be bothering me : )

Everyone and their brother thinks I'm having a boy so it may not even be necessary for us to decide. We'll see : )

  • What about Coralie? (like the french swimmer Coralie Balmy) I thought it was a pretty name when they announced her. :)

Its adorable, but I want a name with no question on how to pronounce it. I myself am not sure if that's pronounced Cora"lye" or Cora"lee." Beautiful name either way through!

  • I responded to your post on the bnb, but I vote again for Cora. I've never met one with the name and I plan to use it if this baby is a girl :)
