Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What table foods are your 9 month olds eating?

So far I've given him graham crackers (no honey), cottage cheese and bananas. He's eaten those Gerber puffs and yogurt bites, but I want to stop that because A) they're expensive and B) they don't offer much nutritionally. So what does your LO like?

  • Well, DS is 10 months but he eats bagels, bread, tofu, shredded chicken, cheese, cheerios, soft fruit (peach, mango, etc.), watermelon, potstickers, pupusas, mac 'n cheese, noodles.

  • He like nibblet corn, english peas, baked cinnamon apples, bits and pieces of things we eat at restaurants and at home.

He ate a morning glory muffin the other night and liked it!

As far as baby snacks, he likes the yogurt melts, puffs, wagon wheels, and most recently he LOVES the little Cheddar sticks (like cheese puffs!).

He also likes bites of chicken, etc.

  • Oh and second all the fruit. He likes to chew on DH's plums. He loves peaches and other fruits but not a real fan of watermelon. I don't mind eating watermelon too but I don't just LOVE it!

  • Spaghetti, shredded chicken, bean/cheese/avocado quesadilla, wheat toast, scrambled eggs, pancakes, waffles, shredded pork, beans, banana, avocado, melon, grapes (peeled and quartered). I feel like she has had more but I don't remember what.

  • I give him pretty much whatever we are having, cut into baby-size pieces. I do cook his portion of the veggies a little longer typically so they are softer. But he loves all sorts of sliced fruits (banana, peaches, mango, melons etc) and veggies (potatoes, lightly mashed peas, whole green beans, avocado, and soft-cooked carrots are big favorites). He also loves beans - I cook them a little longer for softness and either lightly mash or cut them in half for him, but seriously he gobbles them like no tomorrow.

  • What do you consider baby sized pieces?  My LO eats Puffs and will munch on bits of really mushy banana...peas, green beans, etc, but I mash them up so much he cant really grab them with his fingers...not sure how much bigger to make them so he can feed himself?

  • LO has been on table food since around 7.5 months. Everything she eats is finger food. Some things work better as larger chunks of food rather than smaller pieces. Her snacks are O's, rice cakes, or puffed wheat. Today for DC she had a mini waffle for when she arrived like normal, she sits at the table with the older kids and they all eat. Breakfast is oatmeal with a fruit and yogurt (yogurt is her only spoon food aside from soup). Lunch is avocado and mango pieces and a quesadilla. Yesterday for lunch she had meatballs rolled into a hot dog shape, carrots broccoli and strawberries, plus half a whole milk string cheese. She also gets pasta or chowder dishes too sometimes. Dinner is whatever I am having, or a scrambled egg with toast & cream cheese and whatever fruit and veggies i have around the house.  Beans work really well too.
  • chicken, beef, green beans, asparagus, hummus, toast...pretty much everything we eat minus tomato, honey, strawberries, sugary or salty foods, and nuts.  He really loves his veggies and meat.  He likes oatmeal and most fruits as well.

  • Umm..I think we are a bit behind. My LO eats cheerios, the veggie cheeto gerber things and puffs. LOL. that's about it. We have been trying to branch out, but she just does not want anything except BM or formula. I tried her on turkey meat and she held it in her mouth for about an hour...awesome. She did eat a couple bites of sweet potato pieces and peach last night. Maybe we are making progress?

  • This is my first time I have been on this site! I am finding many helpful things, can't wait for my little guy to try some of your suggestions.  My one question is how much formula/breastmilk is your 9 month drinking?

    About 20-24 ounces.

My LO eats the same as th bigger kids at DC. ( toast, pasta, fish tacos, etc)

She love cheese and fruit the most, so I always start her meal with veggies  she like green beans, carrots, sweet potato. If I make her a grilled cheese, I always add spinach. I add veggies wherever I can.  Cottage cheese has lots of protein and it's another fav. Just start trying a variety of stuff. You will be surprised what they will eat.

  • When LO was 9 mo we were doing pancakes, oatmeal, yogurt, cheerios, etc. for breakfast, and for lunch/dinner she ate roasted veggies, small pieces of meat or lunch meat, beans, soft fruits, cheese, noodles, etc.  Basically any people food that is soft, shredded, or broken/torn into pieces.
  • watermelon, strawberries, mashed potatoes (loves), mashed sweet potatoes (loves), rice, bits and pieces of whatever I'm eating, noodles, cheese, puffs, cottage cheese (hates), lots of soft mashed veggies, scrambled eggs. not much meat yet, although he did try chicken. didn't like it so much. I'm still doing purees, too, just out of convenience because I have a bunch in the house, but I'm trying to transition to all table foods in the next 2 months.

  • DD gets whatever we're having just in small pieces, like the size of a cheerio.  She's had tons of things but loves cheese, beans, most fruits and veggies, and she gobbled up the shrimp we had last night.
