Okay, so we have a huge dining room table that fits 8 comfortably. Right now our 15m old is in one of those FP highchair-to-booster seats (no buckle, just a tray) and is taking up one of the chairs. We have one of those cheapie folding boosters that we usually keep in the car, and we could bring that in, but it would take up another chair at the table and it's really for older kids. The FP highchair/booster is a reclining seat, but without the buckle I'm not sure about using it for a 4/5mo baby.
So my question is this. Looking at it reasonably, do we need two highchairs? I'm leaning toward something that will convert so that I can use it for the twins up to 3 or 4, but I'm not sure if I need two or not. It seems like it would be far easier to just bite the bullet and buy two, but I'm on the fence. Is there even a chance we'll be sitting down to meals as a family before they're 6 months old anyway?
Re: Do I need two highchairs? Family mgmt question.
If you didn't buy anything else what would your (now)15 month old sit in when your twins were 6 mo? I ask b/c I'm one of those people who will keep their kids strapped in boosters as long as possible. If I had 3 other kids I'd for sure want one of them locked down, lol. My boys are almost 2 yrs old and I'm not ready for them to just sit in a normal chair, but they're boys and generally terrible at sitting anywhere for more than a minute, so maybe I'm just in a different place.
If you really didn't want to buy anything new could you borrow from anyone until your boosters were available? Or you could just wait til your twins were 4-5 mo and then buy if you still needed to.
Claire is the main problem. I'm guessing twin boys will be easier to control at the table than she is...sigh. I just swapped out the DuoDiner highchairs for Space Savers on our registry. We love the one we have already, and I can't see spending $140 on each highchair when I could spend $120 and get two Space Savers. Twins sure add up, don't they?!
I keep my highchairs in the kitchen and use them for more than just meals.
Now the girls are in to EVERYTHING but freak out when they can't see me. I can entertain/contain them in the chairs with toys or puffs while I'm loading the dishes or cooking meals. They can see me, they're happy, and they're safe. As soon as we move and get a larger table with plenty of chairs, I'll be converting over to boosters.
Also, FWIW my older daughter has been using a "Babysmart Cooshee" foam booster when she went from the high chair to the table around 20 months (I think) and it's still in great shape.
