Any placenta previa experiences?

I posted this on pgal but thought I'd ask you ladies as well. I'm 15 weeks today and yesterday the ultrasound tech noticed my placenta was laying really low. The doctor said it could resolve on its own and to just take it easy which I've already been doing but I can't help imagining the worst case scenario. I'm hoping that since my uterus is supposed to bring it up when it gets bigger, that it will be resolved even more quickly with twins in there but that could be wishful thinking. Have any of you had this? Any positive stories or tales of caution? Thanks.

Re: Any placenta previa experiences?

  • I have marginal previa, which was diagnosed after a red spotting episode at 16w. I've had incidents of red spotting since then (tiny tiny bits of red blood on the TP), but nothing that has made the OB or MFM worry. They just stick me on bedrest for a day when I have it. It has moved a bit, but it is still a previa. My OB said they typically see significant movement around 32 weeks, so I'm hoping my ultrasound next week reveals a move! Since the 16w episode, I have been on lifting restrictions (10lbs.)  and pelvic rest.

  • I had this with my DS at 14weeks ended up with lots lots of bleeding was put on mod. Bed rest. It did fix it's self by my 20 week ultrasound everything was just fine. If you haven't had any bleeding then it sounds like you are fine now really most go away

  • Yep - I had marginal, too. It resolved itself, but I can't recall exactly what week. I never had any bleeding or anything, so I was put on pelvic rest.

  • I had a partial previa with ds that they found at the a/s at 21w. I had a few ultrasounds to.monitor it and i think it was completely.out of the way by 36 weeks. I did not have any bleeding and did not have any restrictions either. From what i remember reading, they do move out of the way the majority of the time.
  • I wouldn't worry too much yet. I had it with DS, had major bleeding and was on strict bedrest from weeks 9-13, then on pelvic rest and modified activity once the bleeding stopped. It eventually resolved around 32 weeks. I had it with the twins, but it continued to move and resolved out of the way by my ultrasound yesterday (25 weeks). It is still close to the cervix, but likely will continue to move up and out of the way (I say it because their placentas are fused). Most do eventually, it is just more common with twins because there is more placenta in there!
