Ask me Anything

tdmklm - in your honor, here's a post to keep things going ;-)

If no one asks anything, that's cool.  If you do, I'll try to answer as openly and honestly as possible.  And if answers are delayed it's because I think I'm going to be called into a meeting in a bit.

Throw 'em at me ladies :-)

Re: Ask me Anything

  • Wowza, T*T! Bold move! Smile

Here goes: What was the hardest thing about being away from K when she was overseas? Bonus question: What was the hardest thing to adapt to when she came home? (This is a totally selfish question - K and I may have to be separated for some time, though not willingly, so I want to prepare if I can.)

What inappropriate thing does JB do that you cannot help but laugh at?

I agree with CT...a new person should volunteer everyday...maybe only weekdays though as we seem pretty slow on weekends!

Wowza, T*T! Bold move! SmileOnly bold if you all ask the good questions Wink

What was the hardest thing about being away from K when she was overseas? I don't know.  I think sometimes the evenings got hard because after the kiddo went to bed it was just me and the dogs.  Also, there were times that I would have really liked a break from everything (kid, house, work, driving, etc) but had no one to give it to me.

What was the hardest thing to adapt to when she came home? I knew it would be hard, but it was much harder than I thought.  I made the mistake of making assumptions about what she would want.  For example I assumed that b/c she hadn't given her kid a bath in 15 months that she would want to.  I assumed that the things I would want to do in that situation were the things she would want.  It led to expectations and fights.  Once I realized that I couldn't assume things, things got easier.  Life as three is just much harder than life as two.  With just me and JB I made every single decision and there wasn't anyone to be mad at for not knowing my next move.  I had a lot of frustration that K didn't automatically get the next move.  Like if I'm putting on JB's shoes to leave, she should be grabbing the sippy cup and putting the dogs away.

But I think a lot of it had to do with the timing of K's absence as well.  I had JB to myself from 3 months to 18 months.

Favorite TV show? I don't have a current favorite.  I like shows like Project Runway, Top Chef, and L&O:SVU (back in the good days)

What's your next trip planned? No major trip planned, but I do hope to visit a friend in Boston soon.

What's your very favorite thing about JB? That she is mine! Not acceptable? I have to pick one thing?  Her smile.

(ps - we should totally make this a series...like each day someone else puts themselves up on the 'ask me anything' block Smile ) Sounds good to me.

What is the one thing that JB does that drives you absolutely nuts? At the moment it is getting back up to pee when I'm trying to get her in bed.  She will have already peed three times an then suddenly she just MUST get up again.  And of course she'll squeeze out a few drops to make me think she's not just procrastinating at bedtime.  Right now, that is driving me nuts because it is prolonging the bedtime routine.

What inappropriate thing does JB do that you cannot help but laugh at? She loves smacking her butt.  She'll run around naked, grab her butt, and laugh.  I guess the only inappropriate part is that if she finds DW or I naked she'll grab our butts too.  But is that really inappropriate at this age? She giggles and giggles and then I laugh too.  Oh, but she does have a thing for "mama's boobies" lately.  She is always trying to pinch my boobs, pull my shirt down, and/or show me her own boobies.

If K were to be asked to go away again for work like she did, would you want her to go/agree to it/do it again? Yes, I would support her in it and likely encourage her to go.  However, we would really  have to think it over if it were the exact same job as last time because the situation has changed and where she was in Afghanistan is no longer as safe as when she was there.

What's your favorite adult beverage? I'm not picky.  I do really enjoy wine but am not a wine snob. I love cider but most places don't carry it.  My default hard liquor drink is a cosmo w/mandarin vodka.

What do you like most about your job? The fact that the money I raise really does go to help people live their lives to the fullest of their abilities.

If you and K could take a vacation getaway to anywhere (while some family or friends take care of little Two), where would you go? I would love to take her to Prague as she has never been there.

If it was you with an offer to go away for work and K would stay with JB would you have ever even considered doing it? For something less than a month, I would consider it.  Long term, nope, no way.

What's your favorite and least favorite thing about being board mod? Favorite - being able to see all of the deleted and reported threads. Wink  Nah, really there isn't anything extra special about the gig.  I got it because I was the most active around the time they developed mods and a few people nominated me.

Least favorite - having to censor/delete posts.  I hate the entire concept of censoring but understand it has its place and there are rules here.

  • What is the biggest struggle the age difference between you and K creates?

Will you be moving back to CA anytime soon?

Will you have more children soon?

What is the biggest struggle the age difference between you and K creates? Sometimes she forgets that I have had all the life lessons that she has had.  And even though she wants to save me some struggles, she needs to let me get a few knocks and learn on my own.

Will you be moving back to CA anytime soon? Unfortunately, no.  Not soon anyway.  We really will have to move where K's career takes us and that is likely to be the DC area.  But how soon? Who knows!?

Will you have more children soon?  I don't know.  We have had some serious conversations about it.  I'm concerned about our finances but at the same time we can't wait much longer because of K's age.
