Trying to Get Pregnant

TTGP after IUD, question

Hi ladies,

I got the IUD taken out last Thursday.  I had the NP take it out as the doctors were either on vacation or in an Emergency delivery.  With that being said, I asked the NP when I could start TTC.  She told me that "they" as the practice recommends waiting at leat 3 months before trying as the uterus needs to heal fully.  I said I had the IUD in for 8 months, could it really need to heal as much as someone who has had it in for years? She just said "I would wait."

Did anyone else get told by the doc or NP that you needed to wait for X amount of time?  I got AF the very next day.  I wasn't looking to get KU this month, but I didn't want to wait any longer than October because of school reasons.

TIA,

Amanda

Re: TTGP after IUD, question

  • I got the go ahead to start TTC right away but was warned it may take awhile for my cycles to regulate. I also had my period right away and then again 3 weeks later and ever since have had somewhat regular cycles with one exception. Good luck!

  • I was hoping that is what she meant. I didn't want to disregard her advice because it didn't come from one of my two doctors.  But I just figured I would get a heads up or two from you lovely ladies, and see what your docs told you.

    xoxo Thanks again

  • I had mine removed last Wednesday and my OBGYN didn't say anything about waiting. She said quite the opposite actually. She said she would see me in 3mos (when I'm 12wks KU). I would go ahead and start once you have finished menstruating.

Did you have the Paragard or Mirena? I had the PG in for almost 4yrs. Hoping to get a BFP in the next couple of months!

    Good luck!

  • I had the Mirena and had mine taken out May 2nd and my DH and I have been enjoying each other but nothing yet. I could understand the regulation comment not the healing or getting stronger comments. I will the medical field would get on the same page! lol Good luck

  • Some docs recommend waiting to allow your uterine lining to build back up (I think) but I had my period the entire time I had my Mirena (although it was light).  My OB said there was no reason for me to wait at all.  Some docs recommend that you wait until you have one period (not to be confused with withdrawal bleeding) just so it's easier to date the pregnancy but I wouldn't ever really care about that.

I think it's likely safe to start trying right away.  I think their is concern that you are more likely to miscarry if your uterine lining isn't built up (I hope I'm relaying the right info about that) but I haven't seen statistics on it.  IF you continued to have your period, I think it would be a moot issue.

  • My OB recommended waiting 3 cycles for my uterine lining to build back up.

  • I had my iud removed and my doctor told me to go for it. My sister got pregnant her first cycle after having it removed and same thing with a friend if mine.
    Good luck!
  • I was told I could ttc right away, no waiting necessary. I had my Mirena for a year.

This.   My primary care said to wait 2-3 months for my uterine lining to build back up.  My OB just said that it would take 2 months for my cycles to regulate.

  • I had a paragard for about 1 year. Just ku the first cycle. MW told me to go for it.

  • I had the Mirena.  But I only had it in for 8 months.  With that being said, I had my periods on and off and only missed my period for the last 2 months.  When I got it taken out last week, I had been cramping and feeling like I was likely to get my AF any day now.  I ended up getting AF the next morning.  I never had spotting the day I got the IUD taken out.  In fact, I didn't even feel the NP take it out.  She was like okay Amanda you are all set.  I looked at her in disbelief.  She was like you didn't feel anything? I said no, not a thing.  So I don't think it was really imbedded that much into my uterine lining.  I don't want to take the change of MCing, so DH and I are going to wait this month, and make sure my AF comes back next month.  I just looked into FF so I have an accurate chart and when O should be starting.  AF packed her bags this morning <3 So I am excited to start this little journey.

Thank you all for your advice and letting me in on what your OB's said.  I didn't think that I would have to wait, but I guess in hindsight, better be safer than sorry.  I hope to be knocked up next month though <3:)

Good GOD!  I am a grammar Nazi and I can't stand it when I make stupid mistakes.  There, not their!  Ugh. I think I was going for "their concern is..."  Whatever.

  • Hi, I had my Mirena taken out in September, I got a surprise BFP mid November, followed by low blood test hcg levels and ultimately a MC at almost 5 weeks. Dr thinks its due to my lining not being thick enough yet... So now after a full cycle we will try again in January... I had the IUD in for 2 years. MC is quite common though not easy... Hope that helps...
