Maryland Babies

late

Hi,

I am new to all of this. I got my IUD removed on July 10 and got my period on July 16. My cycle is like clockwork and I have always gotten it every 28 days. I was supposed to get my period on Monday but have not gotten it yet nor have I had any symptons. I took a test and it was negative.

Does this mean I am pregnant or is it to early to tell or what should I think.... this whole ttc is confusing !

Re: late

  • I'd give it a few more days - coming off any birth control can definitely mess with your body - especially your cycles. If you don't get it in a few days, maybe try another test and see what it says. Most of the tests now can give you a + answer several days before you have even missed your period.

  • If you just got your IUD out, are only two days late, have had no symptoms and your pregnancy test was negative, then you probably aren't pregnant - at least not with enough hormone in your system yet to be detected by a test.  You can keep testing until AF comes - pink dye tests like the First Response Early Result are the most sensitive and reliable - but in the meantime I probably wouldn't bank on anything but your body adjusting to the IUD coming out or some other quirk that's making things run a bit long this cycle.

In the meantime, I'd highly recommend getting a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility and starting to chart.  It's a great way to get in touch with your body and make TTC much less confusing.

  • I agree with the other posters that after coming off birth control, your cycle could be unpredictable. Just because you've always had 28 day cycles, it doesn't necessarily mean you always will. You probably just ovulated late, which pushes the end of your cycle to be later. I agree with pp about reading TCOYF - you will learn a ton!

  • Your normal can change over time, especially after going off birth control or having a baby because your body is readjusting.

I had a clockwork cycle (every 28 days) before I started hormonal birth control.  After I went off birth control my cycle was jacked up for a few months.  I swear I took a pregnancy test every month for the first 4-5 months.  Eventually my cycled fell back into a predictable 28 day pattern.  Then, after I had my daughter my cycle was every 24 days.  Now that I had my son I hope that I do not continue this downward trend.  I really don't want my cycle every 20 days!!

Also, I totally agree with the PP that suggested Taking Charge of Your Fertility.
