Sending Food to Daycare Question

If you have a LO at daycare, do you send food with them? Our DD does well with her cherrios, puffs, banana, etc., but I want to send a bigger variety of things for her to eat. What things do you send that are good for beginning eaters?

  • I send alot of pasta, cooked cut up veggies, cut up fruits, grilled cheese or quesadilla in bite size, waffles, pancakes, shredded chicken

    pretty much anything is good as long as it is in baby friendly pieces

  • Whatever she eats at home is what i send in for DC. for beginner finger foods you can do a lunch or penne (or other shape), meatballs rolled in hot dog shapes, string cheese, chunks of broccoli or firmed cooked carrots, chunks of avocado or mango, strawberries, blueberries, beans.  i often send in a cream cheese & toast sandwich to accompany her oatmeal/yogurt/fruit breakfast.
  • I send two or three snacks for her to try a day. This week, she has had chicken meatballs, different fruits, asparagus and today she is trying some edamame.
  • We typically send leftovers for lunch.  Typically a veggie and protein. I cut them up all bite size.  We keep his oatmeal there, and send a fruit everyday to eat with it.  He also has puffs and mum mums on hand there for a snack. We send all sorts of veggies, asparagus, green beans, carrots, peppers, peas, etc.  I have been wanting to try some pasta.  Maybe next week. :)

  • Depending on how long he will be there I send 2 meals sweat patatos, mash potatos,rice, shredded meat peas carrots apples pear banana. I also leave him puffs yogert meltsCherios. I just change it up as I go.

  • like pp my son starts up next week and I will be sending left overs all cut and ready to go. snacks i will have fruit ready and his favorite is beech nut veggie sticks which come in a on the go type bag..

  • Like PPs I send leftovers of what we had and I cut up / rip up into pieces so all DCP has to do is serve it.  I try to give her cheese, fruit, veggies, pasta, meatballs, chicken, eggs, etc.  I also send goldfish, little bunny crackers, yogurt and prunes (the only puree DD eats because she needs for her pooping and it is the best way to get them in her).
  • We send a lunch that is usually a meat, veggie and grain (i.e. ground beef, carrots and pasta or turkey, bread, cheese and avocado). I try to mix it up so she isn't having the same thing for lunch every day. We also send one fruit. She LOVES blueberries, or we'll send bananas, peaches, mango. Our daycare provides snacks. She gets most of what they provide, except for the cereal bars and chicken nuggets. I give her breakfast at home before she goes in.

  • Same as PP, but I just wanted to add that we'll take bits of leftovers and freeze them. This makes it really easy to come up with her lunches. I just pop some in small tupperware the night before and pop them in the fridge to thaw.

    Today DD is having a chicken meatball and some vegetable barley soup for lunch (I froze the soup in ice cube trays) and mango for a snack.

  • Her daycare provides baby food and finger foods and we choose from a menu each week what we want her to have, but we also send her with food from home because there are certain foods I don't want her to have.

    We make our own baby food so we send her with those purees, but we also buy the Plum Organics and Ella's Kitchen baby foods and she looooves those. We do the stage three or training meals or whatever they're called. We do puffs and teething biscuits and stuff like that too. She loves the Gerber arrowroot cookies. We also do steamed peas and cut up carrots that are soft enough for her to mash but big enough for her to feed herself. You can DIY or buy the little trays that Gerber makes. 

    Shredded chicken is super easy and we do that all the time. I just bake a piece of chicken with no oil or seasonings, just a tiny bit of butter to keep it from sticking to the pan. When its done I attack it with a fork until its shredded in bits. I put some in a baggie for her daycare and use the rest to make chicken enchiladas with for the grownups!
