I don't remember who posted that horrible story about the daycare worker grabbing LOs head to make LO eat...... but it got me to think of how my LO eats sometimes. While I would NEVER grab his head, I know to some outsiders it may look like our eating experience is somewhat "aggressive". He tries to flip his body, he gurgles his milk instead of eating (cute but distracting), tries to look around everywhere, and puts his head back to try and see things upside down. It is cute for about five minutes but when feeding sessions take 1/2 hour it gets a bit old. He does it many times he eats unless he's tired, but it's enough to drive me nuts! I know that he is hungry because he takes the bottle but only for short spans of time. When we visit other people, they just assume he isn't hungry and don't feed him.. but if we waited for him to cooperate he probably would get half of what he needs in a day. Well, I found a relatively easy solution: I give him something to hold. I know this probably isn't best because we would like to transition to sippy cup soon, but if you are having a bad day where you just need LO to eat quickly, try handing him/her a toy while he/she eats. It just might work!
Please feel free to share anything you do to get LO to focus on eating!
Re: For those difficult bottle feeders...
He does like to hold the bottle... but the problem we have is that once he puts the bottle in his mouth he takes it out, looks at it, and either shakes it or puts it back in. It would probably take him an hour to eat if he were to just feed himself :-/
Glad I am not alone!
Just curious - what flow nipple are you on? I'm wondering if bumping DS up to a faster flow nipple might help.
MMC 3.30.16
We use tommee tippee and use the #2 nipple
Edit: Oops meant to quote PP
We're on Avent #2. I'm going to try a #3 just for kicks.
