Recommend your ring sling

I'm a FTM and after looking at the numerous types of carriers I think I want to start my LO in a ring sling when he's born. I have nothing against buying off of Etsy, in fact I actually like the idea, so that's not an issue. Please recommend your ring sling and tell me what made you love it. TIA!

Re: Recommend your ring sling

  • I bought a used one off the forums at diaperswappers.com . It doesn't have a brand, but it's been great. I'd look for a used one - sleeping baby productions comes up often as a good brand.

  • I have a sakura bloom linen ring sling from the pure collection. It is comfortable and holds up great.  I got it from a local store where I could go with DS and try it on.  I have a ring sling and a beco soft carrier I like them both for different reasons.  I use the ring sling daily at night when he is having his witching hour, or when I am playing with DD.  I also use it when out and about for short trips.  I like my gemini for long walking trips because I feel like it is more comfortable.  I looked into sleeping baby productions but she had closed the store and then reopened but was running behind and I wanted mine right away.

  • Wrap conversions! The linens aren't good for heavier babies. Make sure you get a SPB shoulder, otherwise you'll have a hard time getting the fabric through the rings.  You can either get it ready made at either PAXBaby or the swap, or buy a wrap/wrap piece and send it in to sleeping baby productions to be converted. There is no comparison to a wcrs, they will last for a very long time and the resale value remains the same!
  • I'm going to disagree a bit with the pp - linens are actually great for all ages.  Wrap conversions are nice as well but they aren't a must ;)

I agree Sleeping Baby Productions is a great brand and she has reasonably priced slings.  I also recommend Comfy Joey (my personal fav), Sakura Bloom, Kalea, Obimama, Maya Wrap...there are others as well (my siggy link has more info).

Be cautious about purchasing from etsy - not all slings are created equal!  You want a maker who is a member of the Baby Carrier Industry Alliance which demonstrates they are using safe materials and construction practices.   There are some good sling makers on etsy of course but I'd look for reviews outside of etsy for any seller you are considering.

ITA. I had to move up to double layer linen or toddler width when Ari was just over 1, but I still sling him in a double layer linen Sakura Bloom. He's 3, I have back, neck & shoulder issues, & I'm very pregnant, so obviously it's supportive.

Sakura Bloom is my fave. A little spendy, but you can find plenty of deals on TBW.

  • I bought mine on Etsy from a shop that is now called GeroBabyCarriers.  It used to be called BabyInMindCreations which is what the label on my sling says.  I really liked the pattern and the price.  When it came, I was very happy with it and used it quite a bit.  It's actually in the wash right now.

  • Love my maya wrap. It feels good on and has a pocket in the tail for my stuff, paci, burp cloth, etc

  • I made my own. I bought the rings specifically for ring slings and bought a batik fabric. It was very simple. If you can do even basic sewing, it's a simple project.
