GAG! I feel like most things I can just make a snap decision but I really want to be prepared! Should I shell out forty bucks for the snappy digital instant thermometer or just give a little for one that will simply work?
Read the reviews on amazon. If the forty dollar one got great reviews and it truly gives a quicker reading, I'd say it's worth it. It's annoying to try to take an infant's temperature when it takes 5 minutes. But I think a lot of the more expensive thermometers are less accurate, in which case I'd just stick with a cheapo one.
We got a cheapy from Target before DD was born and when she got her first cold it was useless. Totally inaccurate. Now we have this braun one and it is really good. I second the suggestion to read the reviews. You'll see the cheapo ones have like 2-3 stars.
We registered for the Vick's digital thermometer because it got such great ratings (and it's $5 cheaper at Target in the pharmacy area than it is at BRU - always price check!) Anyway, the hospital gave us the simple digital thermometer they used when for the first few days and it's been fine for us, so we took the Vick's back. My in-laws bought us the fancy Vick's that you swipe across the forehead and it's far less accurate IMO.
We have the Summer Infant 3in1 Thermometer that was about $25. I like it because we have the choice of rectal, underarm, or mouth through the various easy to use attachments. Like PP said, a lot of pedis want rectal for accuracy. For us, that is the one that LO tolerates best! lol
Re: Best Baby Therm?
My pedi wants a rectal temp so we got this one. It is fast and has a safety guard so you do not insert it too far in. Plus it is inexpensive!
