Pregnant after a Loss

Oh, man, the nausea

Hi, I'm mostly a lurker but I had to ask for help with the nausea. I'm about 7.5 weeks along (no ticker yet) and I'm relieved to be having pg symptoms since my last pregnancy never felt right. But, man, I spend all day sick to my stomach. It's much worse than when I was pregnant with DD and DS. I am lucky that I am not throwing up...but I have this awful taste in my mouth all day and the nausea only seems to build throughout the day. So by dinnertime, when I am chasing toddlers around and cooking, I feel terrible. By 5:30 at night, I just want to lay down on the cold tile of the bathroom floor and stay there. I've tried sour candies, gum, lots of cold water, greasy foods (always a pregnancy go to for me) and meds like GasX and tums. nothing seems to help much. Do any of you guys have some suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Oh, man, the nausea

  • The thing that has helped the most is Unisom at night and B6 in the morning.  At 18 weeks I just learned that I am still nauseous and throwing up without Unisom at night.  It has also helped to eat small meals frequently, stay hydrated, sip on coke and suck on jolly ranchers. I had zofran for awhile and sometimes it worked but usually not.

  • I know exactly how you feel.  Some things that I tried were ginger tea, water with fresh lemons squeezed in it, ginger ale, crackers, jolly ranchers, sea bands, unisom, acupuncture and eating small meals frequently.  I would say the most helpful are making sure to snack frequently, stay hydrated, get fresh air by taking a walk outside.  Good luck to you getting through this...its awful.  I'm almost 11 weeks and still struggling with nausea and vomiting.  I know it does get better from what everyone says.

  • I'm in the same boat. I feel sick 24/7 but I never actually throw up. I've found eating small meals throughout the day helps me. I hope you feel better soon!!

  • I have had this off and on, but today has been miserable. The nausea has been constant. Nothing sounds good to eat. Everything causes heartburn which just adds to it. I have had a lot of ginger ale and some tums.

    AL always welcome!

  • Sorry you are going through this too. When I got morning sickness I was relieved but now at 12 weeks I have to admit enough is enough ;)

Seabands are great. I wear them to bed because for me it's worse in the morning. I also have some crackers by my bed (my husband loves the crumbs jk) which do help so I can put something in my stomach before I get up.

I haven't done Unisom and b6 but that's supposed to be great. Like others have said ginger ale also helps as does hot water with lemon for me.

I find that if I don't eat something every two hours it's worse so I eat lots of small meals.

Hang in there and hopefully it will get better soon.

  • My dr prescribed Zofran to get me through the day. I felt comfortable taking it because my dr was also pg with twins and taking Zofran. I'm a first grade teacher and could not make it through the day feeling so sick. I can't imagine coming home and cooking dinner and taking care of kids. It really worked for me, although the constipation side effect was a whole other problem...
