Bedrails??

Hi,

We just converted our girls' cribs to toddler beds tonight.  I didn't even think about bed rails/ guard rails until they climbed into their beds - a little too late to run to the store!  Did you use bed rails??  Our girls are almost three and on the small side.  The beds aren't exactly super close to the floor the way some toddler beds are.  Now I'm freaking out that they are going to roll out of bed & will end up wanting their cribs back.  Do we need them?

THANK YOU!! :)

Re: Bedrails??

  •  I found bed rails to be more of a pain than anything. A rolled up blanket will probably be fine. When my middle (now 3.5) was learning not to roll out of bed, we put the two twins together against a wall and then put them on the inside bed together. I know this is not really realistic for two crazy two year olds, but it's an example of how creative you can be without really adding anything to the mix.

If they do fall out, they probably won't remember, and lots of times they don't even wake up. :-) Just pop them back in and scoot them up to the wall!

  • Similar to previous poster, we put my stepson in a bed with no rails around 3, and also used rolled blankets and pillows as kind of a boundary. He did fall a couple times, but the bed is so low and he never remembered. Just scooped him back up and adjusted everything.

  • Were they all over the place when they slept in their cribs?  That will probably give you a good indication of how they'll sleep in beds.  My girls need the rails still, and they're 4.5.  Even with rails, they've both fallen out once.
