Baby Showers

Thank you card etiquette

My shower isn't for a month or so but I've started to receive gift items shipped directly to me from my registry.. some from people who can't attend the shower and some from people who I know will be coming.

Just wondering if I should be sending out thank you cards now or if I can wait until after the actual event and send all my cards together?

Re: Thank you card etiquette

  • Send them out as you receive gifts.  Not only is it polite IMO but it's less to do after the shower.

  • I think it is best to send out a thank you note immediately after receiving a gift. And if you think about it, it will allow the sender to know that you received the gift especially if it was shipped to you.

  • I will NEVER understand why people think it's better to pile work up for yourself while letting your gift-givers wonder if you've gotten their gifts.

The only exception I would make is if they arrive gift wrapped, then I would wait.  However, every gift we had shipped to our house was in the original box.

    Send the cards now.

He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be.  He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.

I agree. People like to know you have received their gifts.

  • I would send them as I received them...even for those you know will be coming to the shower.  Then...at the shower you can verbally thank them again when you speak to them.
  • I've always hear that you should send thank yous within two weeks of receiving a gift. And if you don't send them people may think you didn't get the gift and your run the risk of just plain forgetting. I know I'd forget if I waited.

  • As soon as you get them.

  • Of course you send them as soon as you get the gift.  Why would you wait?  Doesn't make sense.

    This. Especially the bold.

  • Yep, thank you cards definitely need to be sent as you receive the gifts. We've received a couple of gifts from out of town family and I put cards in the mail the same day. I'm very proud of myself for that because I totally sucked at that with our wedding gifts, lol!
