Anyone else still undecided on a name?

If so, what's holding you back?  Wanting to wait til you meet the baby? You and SO not agreeing on anything?  Just unable to decide?

I feel ridiculous - with Aaden we had our names picked out at 8 weeks (one for boy and one for girl) and now here I am at almost 31 weeks and still no decision.  My problem is, I just can't decide which name on our list I like the best (or the least).

Re: Anyone else still undecided on a name?

  • Same here...you are not the only one!  I want to meet my little one and then I will know!!!

  • First, yes, I want to see her first before making a final decision! And even with that decision aside, dh and I can't agree on too many names; we're taking a process-of-elimination route.

So, hopefully we'll have an agreed-upon top five by the time she decides to show up!

  • We still haven't narrowed it down, we have about 5 names for a girl and 2 for a boy.  DH is having a hard time with the fact that you choose a name that the child will have forever.

Our top running boys name is Aaden Matthew - but we still haven't commited to it.  :)

  • We haven't had more than one five minute conversation about names. We know that if it's a boy the middle name will be Joseph. That's it.

It's a mix of pretty much all the reasons you listed...since we don't know what we're having, I would like to see the baby before deciding on a name, my husband likes names that I hate and vice versa so we've just stopped talking about it. We know it's definitely important, but it's definitely not high priority right now.

  • I keep changing my mind about the boys name. I just can't decide which one I like better. Guess we will wait until LO is here to make the final decision.

Would you spell it with 2 As??  Smile I couldn't imagine my Aaden being anyone else and I honestly couldn't imagine his name being spelled any differently.

It's funny, I know there's sooo much thought that goes into the baby's name but it seems like once you name them, that's it.  That's their name and you don't really second guess it because you can't imagine them being anything other than who they are.  I just wish I could decide on which name we think this baby girl is!  At least we have it narrowed down to top 3.  My girlfriend is due next week and she still has about 10 names on her list! LOL

  • We've had a girl's name picked forever, but just can't agree on a boy's name. It's funny, because I really REALLY think it's a boy too, so we better get moving. Every name I love, DH hates, and vice versa. Plus I had an unusual name growing up and was always picked on, so I am ultra sensitive to that and want it to be a name that won't cause any angst when growing up for my LO. I hope we get our act together and pick one quickly!

  • We are not completely decided yet.  I am having second thoughts on the name I think we are going to use but only because it is such a big decision, not because I don't love the name.

  • Yeah still not 100%. We think we have the names, I just can't commit to them. I have the fear of naming them the wrong names. Like I'll end up wanting to change them when they are older or something.
  • We had tons of girl names and one mutually-agreed upon, but he is just not interested in any particular boy names. He says they don't motivate him and he's not particularly inspired by any. I have two I really like, but he's fighting me on my favorite for stupid reasons (it's the same name as an NFL player he doesn't like). My whole thing is this--unless we completely make up a name, someone, somewhere is gonna have the same name, and chances are there are several, and some of them might be a$$holes, so just suck it up.

I once dated a guy with the same name as my husband and I don't hold it against him! =)

We will not decide completely until he is born, though, and I think we're going to have a naming ceremony.

I like Aaden but DH likes Aiden.  I personally don't like the second spelling but I guess I have to give H some say in the name :)

  • *raises hand*

DH & I have a short list, but we can't seem to decide on the final one. It's overwhelming to think that it's a name that LO will be stuck with for the rest of his life!  We don't want something too common, but we both like traditional names.  It's tough...

I know, we really do have to give them some say, don't we?  Although, I think since we grow, carry and birth the baby our opinion should hold more weight, don't you think? Like 70/30? Wink

    I completely agree!

  • We have had a first name since May but are still stuck on a middle name... it's HARD!

we aren't wanting to see the baby first but all the other reasons you listed are teh same as us.  we have so much going on right now..it will happen:-)

  • We know we're having a girl and just can't find any names that we both love. We have a list of options that neither of us necessarily want to veto, but nothing seems to stand out. We spent so much time thinking about names in the first 20 weeks that I had to stop thinking about it and start getting ready for the actual baby!

At this point the plan is to just wait to meet her, then check our list of possible names and see if any of them really seem to fit her. Hopefully one of them will work!

  • We didn't pick our girl name until I was in labor. We still have our boy name from last time, but no girl name. We don't know the sex, and still need one of each!
  • We still don't have a name.  We're lucky in that we can agree on a lot of names, we just haven't been able to decide.  We have it down to about 8 now, and hope to reduce that down to a couple by the time she's born.  We may wait to see here before making a final decision, but we'll see.

  • We made a list months ago but it was just names we thought of at that time. It is no way "complete" but at least a start. We have trouble agreeing because our styles are different. We are getting close enough now though that I am starting to stress!
  • I am about 95% settled on a name, but don't want to set it in stone til we meet the little guy. The problem is, I don't have a backup one picked out lol.
