Got my marching orders from my RE today. My baseline looked great so we're proceeding with a Femara + Ovidrel + IUI cycle. Anyone have experience with it? How long between the shot and IUI? Can you give yourself the shot? DH is a wimp around needles so I have no faith in his assistance (he says it'll be a "stabbing motion"... um, no).
I'm so ready for this to be our cycle. Now, hopefully, my repeat mammogram on Wednesday will go fine and we can get on with things. Starting to feel a tiny ray of hope building... it's been a long time since that happened.
Re: Ovidrel - anyone?
Hooray! I'm so excited that you are moving forward!
I did an Ovidrel shot last cycle. No tips on administering it, as a nurse at my RE's office did it. But if it is any consolation, I didn't feel a thing. I hope your DH surprises you!
We didn't do an IUI, but I definitely ovulated the next day.
Good..no, great luck!
Never did any shots but just wanted to say hopefully your repeat mamm results are good on Wed and you get to move forward!! GL

Met with RE 4/11. 2 IUI's BFN. DE best option. Switched clinics to do "shared" program. Had to retake all tests and a mamm that put me behind and then on a DE waiting list for 12 months. Picked a donor!! (10/13/13) Got matched. Estimated transfer in December. After 2.5 years of patiently waiting I will finally cycle....can hardly believe it. DE cycle got cancelled. One of her tests came back positive. Waiting for another donor. Donor picked!! (1/18/14)

I always did ovidrel sub-q so it is easy in the stomach. I don't think you can do it IM but make sure. If you are doing it sub-q, you will have no problem. Theoretically it will be done about 36 hours before IUI but I have done it 12 hrs before because my LH was surging on its own. So it can vary..
Eta: you can definitely do it yourself

I think the hcg trigger shots can be done either subq or IM. I've had both, but it was the nurse who did the IM for me. The timing is usually better if you can do it yourself.
Timing wise, I think 36 hours is typical, but I've seen people report up to 41 hours and my last RE prescribed injection 38 hours pre IUI.
I'm glad you're feeling more hope. Good luck with repeat mammogram tomorrow.
Hi dear!
I did Ovidrel this month for my first time. The information that I got is that Ovidrel will cause ovulation to hapen in about 36 hours - and that it is pretty consistent. I am doing mine with Clomid though.
Dont be afraid of the shot - I knwo thats easy to say but I hem hawed around for 30 minutes trying to do it. I did finally put ice on the spot. I wrapped 3 cubes in a grocery bag and held it on the spot until I got the nerve.. prolly like 10 minutes.. it was so cold that it stung and thats when I realized this ice sting prolly worse than the shot. So I put the needle there, and gave it light pressure, took my time.. put a little more until my it finally gave way with some ease, and there it went.. it did not hurt at all.. i didnt even feel it.
In my experience, Ovidrel is one of the easier shots I have given to myself. I usually give it to myself in my upper thigh sub-q as I am squeamish about giving it to myself in my stomach. I have iced for a few minutes but am not sure for ovidrel if it helps much. My RE usually has me trigger about 36 hours before the IUI.
Hoping everything goes well with your mammogram and you are able to get started very soon!!
