I got mine today...
I had been reading about it. I'm not unhappy I got it. I'm just a little ticked that my office didn't tell me I was getting it today (or eligible now, as they put it) and basically said "Do you want it now, or never?" I've never had bad reactions to vaccines, and was planning on getting it, there's just something weird to me about getting them when you're pregnant. What's everyone elses views on it?
Re: Anyone got their TDap yet?
My husband already got his and I plan on getting mine after the 20 week mark
It's the new pertussis (sp?) vaccine
Tdap is the adult version of the DTaP vaccine that children receive. It is a "booster" shot to renew your immunities to Tetanus, Diptheria, and Pertussis (whooping cough).
Had a booster 2yrs ago, not due for a while. DH will have his booster next month, girls are both up to date on their series. Friends and family who plan to visit AT ALL before the twins are 6mo must have received a booster within the last 5yrs to enter our home. But, we live just south of WA and have valid concerns about the recent epidemic declaration for Pertussis.

I'm getting mine in two weeks. The ob said she likes to wait until third tri.
Tetanus diptheria and pertussis (whooping cough). There was a good thread on third tri this AM talking about the dif between Td and Tdap.
ezra everyday
I actually had mine in 2009 when I was due for my tetanus booster every 10 years. Glad I got it then so one less thing for me to worry now. DH will be getting his in Sept I think.
However, we need to get our flu shots soon. The first batch for 2012-13 season has just arrived around here (MA).

The tdap injection will trump your old TD injection every ten years. Not just you but anyone in contact with the child is recomended to get this shot...I work at a doctors office so I hear all this jumbo everyday!
I got mine last week and I'm almost into the 3rd trimester. DH got his 2 years ago thanks to me, so he's fine. I am telling my family though to get theirs if they haven't and it is told anyone over 65 should get it as well.
Whooping cough is on the rise apparantly.
Not wanting my flu shot, but I know the one time I didn't get it- I got the Flu really bad so I'm not going to do that again!
Be warned though- just FYI if those families over 65 are getting their Tdap and have Medicare= we are finding Medicare does not want to cover it, so please warn them they may be responsible. That's happening at our office, mind you like I said I work at a PCP office.
My doctor told me I just need to get it before I leave the hospital to take the baby home.
But I don't understand how I am supposed to not let anyone near the baby without them being vaccinated. Really, am I going to make the 4 grandparents who are in their 70's go get a dtap before seeing their grandchild?
I'm in this same boat. I realize the severity of this situation and how in certain areas, it is reaching very high levels. I would never want to see my child sick because of something I could have prevented. However ... I will ask close relatives nicely about getting their booster shots, but DH and I have such large families. I can't control who gets the shot, checks their records to see if they are up-to-date, etc. How do you protect your child without keeping it in a bubble?
We were also discussing this issue in the November board- and one lady did mention this so I wanted to share with you ladies!
From what I've heard/read if you get it in your 3rd trimester, I think you can pass the antibodies to little one while they are in the womb and this helps them a little bit more then not being exposed to it. The baby can't get the shot till 8 weeks old. https://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vaccines-during-pregnancy/AN01886/
So just passing this on!
I'll be getting mine late 3rd trimester.

This exactly!
But pp is right that when we were pregnant last time the recommendation was to wait until after the baby was born. That has since changed though.
