Pregnant after a Loss

Does anyone else have placenta previa?

I went for an ultrasound/cervix check today and the tech kept asking me if I had any spotting or bleeding (I have not). Then she mentioned my placenta is pretty low but should resolve on its own but that I should take it easy. Of course I'm already taking it easy because of my cervix so I'm a little nervous about this. Any experience/words of wisdom?

Re: Does anyone else have placenta previa?

  • I just was diagnosed with it yesterday at 19.5 weeks.  I am not to lift anything heavy, no exercise and no sex.  I had spotting and bright red bleeding a couple of weeks ago so they are concerned that the cervix/placenta is already aggravated so I am to put myself on bedrest if I feel i've over done it or see any spotting.  Bleeding would be a call to doctor to see what they want me to do.  I have another u/s at 28 weeks to see if it has moved.  The no lifting, exercise and sex restrictions seem to be a pretty common course of action, based on what I saw online.

  • Most of the stories I've heard seem to suggest that this does usually resolve itself, and is common-ish in early pregnancy. Hope everything works out!

I had marginal placenta previa, originally seen around 14 weeks.  It moved up and away, but then moved back again.  It has moved away again though, as of last week, and I'm currently just out of the area of worry.  You still have lots of time for things to adjust and change in there. Smile

  • I was diagnosed with this at 18 weeks. I was given lots of restrictions, but I just had it rechecked today and it's moved out of the way. I think this happens in most cases but I understand you are concerned, just take it easy and see what the next u/s looks like. You have plenty of time for things to change.

Oh, and the same thing happened with DD and again all was fine before the end of my 2nd tri!

  • I was just informed I may have one today at just shy of 17 weeks...same thing PPs have mentioned...just a wait and see if it moves, at this point nothing to worry about, relatively common early on, and may resolve on its own.

  • my friend had it so she was put on pelvic rest during her pregnancy. She had planned a c-section because of it but the placenta ended up moving before her delivery she was able to deliver vaginally.

  • Mine was found at 15 weeks. Three weeks later, it has already resolved! I was put on pelvic rest and they told me to watch for bleeding but it seems fairly common to clear up, especially when it is discovered early. :)

  • Thanks for the responses. Please keep them coming if anyone else has more info. I'm trying to keep calm, as I see now that it's pretty common. An acquaintance of mine delivered her twins at 24 weeks because her placenta tore so that was the only experience I knew about.  I just have to put that out of my mind for now and think about all of the cases that resolve on their own. :)
