This is part vent and part asking for some suggestions.
Evan has always been a great eater. He'll eat ANYTHING you put in front of it and lots of it. We went to the pedi the other day and she told us that he was a bit smaller weight was than he should be. We've always been tiny (15th percentile), but we've slipped down to about the (7th percentile). She wasn't overly concerned, but said to make sure we're getting in as many calories as possible. Since that appt, E has decided not to eat...anything. None of his old favorites work....none of the tricks I've tried are getting him to eat. I don't see any teeth or anything coming in so I don't think that's it and he doesn't seem to be sick at all. I normally wouldnt be as nervous about this, but with the pedi suggesting we give him extra food I don't want him to slip any further. Ugh...
I know there have been picky eater ?s on here before but I never really payed attention (silly me) becuase my eater wasn't picky. Any suggestions? Is this just a phase?
Re: My child won't eat...help!
My LO isn't picky at all, but it's hard to get him to sit still long enough to eat a large meal ... plus he's so active he burns it all right off.
We try to offer small portions of healthy foods regularly throughout the day, rather than the old "three square meals," and the only meal we require him to sit at the table for is dinner. Also, it's easier if you look at giving them a balanced diet across a day or even a week or two, versus making every meal balanced. Last night at dinner, he wouldn't eat anything but a big pile of green beans, but he eats plenty of protein at other times, so it will all even out.
This made me laugh! When G does this, I swear I'm so close to actually cheering her on. She'll eat a few bites of veggies at dinner, but every now and then just latches on to something in particular and that's all she wants. A few nights ago all she wanted was cooked carrots for her snack. I was all "what???", but I gave them to her and she snarfed them.
When G won't eat, though, sometimes I put on an Elmo video, which prompts her to ask for a snack, and sometimes I can hand her whatever she didn't eat for her dinner, and she'll be so engrossed in Elmo that she just eats it. The very same thing she rejected right before! It's a similar idea that another poster had about going for a wagon ride and offering a "snack" then. Also, sometimes a change of scenery helps (i.e. a picnic in the backyard).
We do this all the time! Somehow leftovers taste better eaten in the living room instead of at the table. LOL
