Stretch marks - what are you using?

So last night we were laying in bed and DH so graciously pointed out stretch marks at the bottom of my belly (where I can't see).

So what are you using on your stretch marks?  I see the mederma ad on the corner of the bump screen and I have samples of the Palmer's Cocoa butter stretch mark cream but do you use something different and does it help?

It's late in the game to start with lotions but I figure if I start using it now it might help after the baby is born

  • I have been using the Palmer stretch mark cream also ....I dont really know that it helps at all...I dont have any stretch marks on my stomach, just my boobs. And it doesnt seem to be helping those at all.

ETA: I've also used the Bio-oil, but I dont like it because it leaves my skin greasy and makes me break out....so I try staying away from it.

  • My midwife suggested BioOil while the sm's are still in the red stage...it should help them fade later on. Not sure if that is true or not, but I'm still trying it out.

  • I don't have any stretch marks yet - but who knows if the lotion is helping or it's just how my skin is.  I just use Jergens Ultra Healing lotion after every shower.  I've never cared for Cocoa Butter b/c of how greasy it is.

  • Nothing this time!

I rubbed my belly twice a day last time with either Palmer's or Bio Oil and I still got stretch marks like a Mo Fo!  lol!

I mean honestly, they aren't *that* bad, but I had some on my hips and boobs from puberty so I figured I was doomed anyway.  and I was.

  • Everything I've read says that if you're going to get them, you're going to get them, regardless of what you use. I use lotion all over my body every day. I have them in a somewhat circular shape around my belly button.

For the person who brought up Maderma, I am not sure it will help while you're still expanding, but I used it on my scars from a breast reduction and my scars look amazing.

  • I had been using Burt's Bee's Mama Bee Belly Butter, but I ran out and happened to have Palmer's on hand, so I'm using that.  I really don't like how it smells, but I guess it's better than nothing.

The only SMs I have are on my sides and they're a little red.  I keep telling myself it could be worse!

  • Nothing. I'm wearing them loud and proud. I hear it is genetics and no lotion will help. With dd I thought I was in the clear, then got a ton around 36w.
  • I also think that genetics has a big role in if you do or don't get them.  My mom has none but my sister has tons of really bad ones.  I started using Mama Mio belly rub oil at 8 weeks and Mama Mio Boob Tube at 10 weeks and so far (knock on wood) no stretch marks.  I like the product because even the oil doesn't feel oily when I rub it in and it had a very nice citrus scent to it.

  • I use coconut oil (not to be confused with cocoa butter) every day right after I shower and I usually put more on before I go to bed.  So far, so good.  I put it all over my body, face included, and it doesn't make me break out.  It goes on kind of greasy but absorbs fairly quickly.  I bought it off the shelf at the grocery store.  It pretty much looks like Crisco when it's solid and warm air or water turns it to clear liquid.  I like it a lot and will continue using it after baby.  It makes my skin so soft and even cleared up the bumps on the backs of my arms!

  • I use L'Occitane Almond Supple Skin Oil. I love it!!!  I had been experiencing some lower pelvic pain, or what I thought was lower pelvic pain, and a co-worker had mentioned it may be my skin stretching.  Turns out, I think, it was my skin stretching because I went home later that night and slathered the oil on and the pain went with it!!  So now twice a day I put the oil on, once after shower and once before bed.  Also, after shower and oil I rub on my daily lotion, which is Vaseline Cocoa Radiance.  I don't have a SO to tell me if I have stretch marks in weird places or not, but I am hoping if I do they are minimal due to my routine!
