I am 6 weeks tommorow and i woke up this morning with some brownish spotting.

My drs office never answers calls directly, i have to leave a message and they get back to me when they have time!! ugh...

Im upset and thinking the worst.

Please thoughts and prayers that my baby is ok.

I am going nuts because i dont know when the dr will even call me back!

Has this happened to anyone else???

Re: Im spotting and very upset..

  • My best friend spotted for several months with her son.  He is now 9 months :)  try not to drive yourself nuts, but I know its hard.  I am worried becasue I had no M/S today :)  Hopefully you can get in and see your doctor soon for reassurance :)

  • Could be implantation bleeding. Try not to worry too, especially since it isn't bright red. I would relax until they call you back. Could be a good thing, little one is just implanting in and getting secure? GL

  • Deep breaths.  Brown and pink are almost always okay, and something like 30-50% of pregnant woman spot in their first trimester.  Sometimes it's old implantation bleeding making its way down, and other times it's got to do with yolk sac/placenta attachment, etc.  Once in a while you end up with something similar to a scab where the baby attaches, and it takes a little while to slough off.

I had bright red bleeding one week ago, and all was fine.

Deep breaths.  No need to worry unless the doctor sounds worried.  Easier said than done!  Good luck.

  • I spotted (and actually bled). I'm now 8w and the baby is fine. I was told that brown is old and nothing to worry about. When I was bleeding, my doctor said as long as it is not accompanied by cramping or soaking a pad that I shouldn't worry. I know that it's all scary.

  • I just read this on the March 2013 board.  Maybe this will give you comfort.

I know you are going to worry but brown is good, red is bad.  Good luck. T&P's!

  • I know it's easier said than done, but brownish discharge is usaly very normal and no cause for concern. I hope you get some peace of mind.

  • Thank you everyone for your words. My dr still hasn't called back so I'm just waiting...hearing this is some what normal helps . But my mind just takes over sometimes and I think the worst.

    Ill keep you all updated.

    Thank you all so much!

  • Yes this happened to me around 5.5 weeks with this pregnancy and 8 weeks with my last pregnancy. I have been spotting off and on since 5.5 weeks this time around. My baby (as far as I know) is perfectly fine. Brown spotting is OK and fairly common. As long as you aren't having bad cramping or a red flow you will probably be ok. Wait for your doc to call and try not to stress.

There are a number of reasons that it happens and most of the time they don't know exactly why. Sometimes you just have a sensitive cervix and it can bleed a little. Just try to relax as best as you can...

  • Well they called me back and the nurse was very insensitive.

She said theres nothing anyone can do if it is the start of a loss.

Uh thanks a lot!!! I know that!!!

I insisted on bloodwork to check my levels on hcg and progesterone.

So that's what I have done.

Now just waiting for the results.

They won't give me an ultrasound for 2 more weeks :(

The wait for the first ultrasound is killing me!!! I just wanna see my baby and hear the words, everything looks good.

    Thanks for all the support.

It sounds like everything will be fine. Brown spotting is normal with a lot of women. And with you only being a little over 5 weeks, you would be lucky to see anything on an ultrasound at this point. Waiting 2 weeks for that first one will be best, honestly. Best of luck!

  • Ive had bleeding as well. Went in for a sonigram just ot be sure today, everything is fine. I can't remember the technical term the tech used, but sometimes bleeding of the tissue can occur in there its common and no cause for alarm. This is what is causing my spotting, but she said as long as its not bright red its fine. sometiems the uterus also just sheds old blood.

I second what a PP said about you being too early to see anything on an ultra sound anyways. As hard as it is you don't really have a choice but to wait the two weeks :(

  • Brown is ok, it's old blood so that is good!  I spotted with both pregnancies both times it happend at 5.5 weeks and again at 8 weeks and the 2nd time it lasted for a week straight.  As long as it stays brown try not to stress, harder said then done I know.

Well, she's right. And you need to know that the possible outcome of spotting is miscarriage, especially this early in pregnancy. Your doctor isn't just going to pat you on the back and tell you everything is fine- they don't even know what will happen, and it will take several weeks of monitoring before anyone knows whether the pregnancy is viable or not.

The best thing to do is just relax and wait and see what happens. I know it's nerve wracking, especially with your first pregnancy. But just try not to worry about it.

  • I spotted pink and brown discharge between weeks 6-8. My doctor recommended a u/s to make sure everything was ok. It is apparently very common to get spotting, it could be old blood or implantation bleeding. So sometimes it's normal and other times it is now. I would suggest that you keep calling the doctor to talk to a nurse and see about getting a u/s, but know that it might be too early to hear the heartbeat. My doctor's office said if it gets very heavy or is bright red to call or go to the emergency room. I know this sounds crazy because I still worry every day, but try not to worry, do anything you can do de-stress and keep calling the doctor! Good luck!!

  • I think that sounds pretty insensitive. Maybe you want to look into finding a new doctor's office or complain to the doctor about the nurse. Having gone through the same thing, I received completely opposite treatment (totally supportive) from my doctor's office! Also, if  you exercise regularly as I do, I was told to stop until the bleeding did.

  • The same thing happened to me on Monday. I spoke to my SIL who is 24 wks pregnant. She had a m/c last year so I am always asking her what both her pregnancys were like. She said that with her m/c she never had any brown spotting, and with this one she did. I actually try to look at it as a good thing. In my head it means that your uterus is getting bigger and "pushing" all the old out. I know it may be silly, but it makes me feel better!

Thank you! That does make me feel better!

Im waiting for my HCG AND PROGESTERONE blood work results today but the spotting has stopped and im feeling good.

I hope my little bean is just nestling in there and expanding! :)

Thank you all again for your kindness, it made me feel alot better ;)

Hope all of your little beans are sticky and healthy.

  • I had light spotting for a couple days and it turned out it was a really small SubChrionic Hemotoma. My doctor said they are super common, she had one, and it rarely ever causes a big issue and if you just take it easy and pelvic rest, you and your LO will be perfectly fine!
