Likes: roasted red pepper (which was surprising since I couldnt stand the smell of peppers when I was KU), green tea ice cream (i know, i know...but it was just a lil bit ), lemon chicken breast, and all the tried and true stuff (the kid wolfed down 4 pieces of cantaloupe yesterday!)
Dislikes: raspberries (the challah was way more exciting), chick pea halves (darn pincher grasp!)
Question: I know we arent supposed to give LO anything with salt, but how strict a rule is this? I went to give Z a piece of steak, but DH told me not to since it was seasoned with salt, etc. I say away from putting salt on our veggies that we share with him, but do I need to do the same with protein?
Likes? Orange slices, there was something else new he liked but I can't remember it right now
Dislikes? Still not a fan of strawberries. He takes a bite then throws it on the floor.
Questions? Comments? Concerns? We did have a real choke this week, but he got it out pretty quick when I leaned him forward in his seat. I was about to back pound but he got it out first. We won't be giving him potato wedges for a bit now...I think they're just so thick and dry he had a hard time chewing it up.
That is so cool, all this 'grownup" food your LO likes!
So regarding salted foods... And I hope I don't get ripped apart for this but I'm just sharing what my pedi told us.
He said that the salt content in cooked food is very small (less than 2% of daily value) and is completely ok for the baby. That amount of salt their bodies can absolutely handle and it is NOT harmful to them. It is the processed food that contains sodium, that's really bad (just like for us adults too). He said that it's actually way more dangerous to give the baby too much water at this point. (He said not to exceed 2oz/day) As it is actually the water that the babies at this age can't process and the kidneys end up flushing out too much salt of out the body which is not good! So he said, if you eat a seasoned chicken/steak etc it is totally ok. So what I do, when I give my DD meat, I make sure I just give her the very middle where there is very little salt that was just partially (if at all) absorbed.
I also have a question: I hope I'm not intruding as I"m new to BLW and am just slowly trying it out.
My pedi also said to maybe avoid berries with ourside seeds (so strawberries and raspberries) until 9 months as there is a higher tendency of allergic reactions. He didn't say you absolutely have to, but that he does recommend it.
I'm not fully BLW, but I am giving him more unpureed food I'm letting him feed himself
Like: Banana. Maybe a bit too much. He ate so much that he threw up later. I'm limiting him next time on how much of that he eats. He'll also gobble down pears and squash like no tomorrow
Dislike: Peas. Even if I squish it a little for him, he doesn't like the skins on it.
I've heard that too about the berries. I believe there's too much acidity in them that could cause a reaction. You could probably introduce just a little bit just to give them exposure, but I wouldn't go overboard.

My DD is the same way! My mom said she knows a trick how to get the peas (including the tough skin) to be smooth. So I'll see if DD will eat grandma's peas and if her trick works. If it does, I'll share the secret

Dislikes: nothing new
Big bear, that's an interesting perspective on water consumption from your pediatrician. Thanks for sharing.
