Do you correct your LO's pronunciation on words if he doesn't get them quite right? J calls a spoon "poon" and ketchup is "chesshup." I think his toddler speak is adorable, but I dont want him to be 6 & still mispronouncing words.
Does anyone rememner the Full House episode when Michelle is an adult & says ows-cream instead of icecream? LOL.
Re: S/o words: pronunciation
Well, I just repeat it the right way. Currently, Alexander pronounces "Mango" as "Geego" and I just say, "That's right, Mango!" So I'm telling him he is right, but then kind of correcting it anyway. Once in awhile I will say the word he says for something, like I will say, "Oh, do you want a nana?" because that's what he calls a banana.
I think most kids will refine their pronunciation on their own. Since dog was A's first word, I have watched it evolve from ada, to da, to dag, to daga to doggie. He just did it on his own.
I guess I should clarify that I just mean we say it the correct way after it. I don't try to get him to say it correctly b/c that would be futile!
Yes. I don't go all out & say, "No, Anthony, it's SPOOON, not poon!" or anything, but I will just confirm what he is telling me with the correct pronunciation by saying, "Very good, that's a spoon!"
His cousin's name is Gabby & he calls her "Abba". So now my ILs are all like, "Anthony! Where's Abba?" alllll the time. It annoys me. I told them to please reinforce the correct pronunciation. I feel like he would be saying it correctly if he could, so why keep reinforcing the wrong pronunciation? IDK, maybe I'm being too anal.
C's been saying "me-mo" lately for banana! We find this so odd because "nana" was one of his very first words and he's even said "banana" correctly once or twice. I have no idea where "me-mo" came from though but it is definitely what he means. He also called tomatoes "may-mo" until recently.
We also just pronounce it the correct way in response to her. I feel like she is probably trying to say it correctly she just can't get it to come out just right.
I have a feeling that her mispronunciation of the word lion (Lie-eee) is going to end up sticking as her stuffed tiger's name, because it is just so dang cute.

This is exactly what we do too.
We just follow up with the correct pronunciation.
So, she has a toy dragon that hangs from the ceiling that she loves. It comes out "dagohn." We'll say, oh you want the dragon to fly? Right back to her and she'll say yes or nod.
