Im not sure if this is the right board to post on because my daughter is almost 2 months and there is no reflux board.
My pedi is starting her on Elecare to see if if it helps, and if not she will be referred to a GI specialist to see what they want to do about meds for reflux.. she's already been on zantac and prevacid... while on breastmilk and similac alimentum for her colic and reflux... nothing is helping..
Whats your experience with Elecare or Neocate? any difference ?
Re: XP: anyone on Elecare or Neocate (reflux moms come in)
we put my daughter on Alimentum at one month because the dr basically made us. i continued to pump while removing all soy/dairy from my diet. she had blood in her stool, extremely colicky, some hives after breastfeeding, horrible gas pains etc.
She was on the Alimentum for a month. It did not clear the blood in her stool so they put her on Neocate at that time. The Neocate cleared the blood within 2 weeks, might've been sooner but that is when they tested. At that point, I slowly started reintroducing my breastmilk (dairy/soy free including hidden) to her. She was about 3.5 months old at this point. I gradually started increasing the # of breastmilk bottles per day but always did a mix of Neocate & breast milk b/c I didn't want her to forget the taste of Neocate because it took me about 2 weeks of slowly increasing the amount of Neocate/Alimentum before she would drink it.
We never tried elecare but have had a good experience with Neocate/breast milk combo
DD has been on Elecare for almost 2 month. It's for food allergies, but she also has reflux. We transitioned from breast milk.
She's doing great on it,but as far as the reflux goes, please be prepared, that the transition time is horrible.LO was throwing up so much, I cried every day. I was told to stick it out, 2-3 weeks. At the time I could not believe that the throw up would ever stop, but it did!
There is a message board that has a great "reflux" group.PM me and I give you the website, because I'm sure I'll get deleted if I put it in the post.
