Be real with me, how hard is the Moby??

I was interested in a Moby when pregnant with #1, I went to a fancy baby store and the saleswoman tried to help me tie it, and my brain went "omg" and I just couldn't process it.  I knew that I wanted to somehow wear my baby, so I bought a Bjorn and used that the first few months, then bought an Ergo when she was 4-5 months old and LOVE my Ergo.

So this time around, I still have my Bjorn and Ergo.  Also someone has already bought the Infant Insert for the Ergo for me.  Well, I just found out that someone bought me a Moby!  While I am intrigued and excited about it, I'm soooo nervous to actually use it.  It just seems SO complicated.

Is there a great youtube video or blog that can ease my mind about this?

Thanks!

  • I was definitely nervous about the Moby with DD but it really wasn't that hard to tie.  That said, I didn't like how stretchy the fabric was and am actually trying to sell mine.  I plan to buy a woven wrap this time.

  • At first I was like omg wtf do I do with all this fabric? 2 weeks of use I could tie it in my sleep. It's super easy to get the hang of! My husband still doesn't know how to use it, but more because of the ease of baby hawk, not difficulty of moby.

  • Just watch a few videos online to make sense of it, and you'll be able to do it in a few tries (or less). It's really, really not bad at all.

  • I thought it would be hard. I studied YouTube videos before I got it and when I purchased it I was practically able to put it on with my eyes closed. The only thing I have trouble with is getting my LO in it sometimes but that's normally because he's being fussy. It's a lot easier than I thought!

  • Its really easy.  Much easier for me than the Baby Bjorn type carriers.  There are videos on the Moby site.  I got it on and baby in on the the first try in less than 5 min.  Just make sure you wrap it tight enough.  I read somewhere to wrap it so tight you *think* you won't be able to get baby in - this is true do to the stretch of the fabric.  LO is now almost 5 months, weighs 16 pounds, and we still use it.

  • At first it seemed intimidating - after all it's a very long piece of fabric, but I practiced a lot at home and after a week or two I was quite confident. It's easy once you do it a few times.

Ditto PP to wrap it tight because the fabric will stretch.

  • Not hard. Just practice after watching some YouTube videos. It is a heck of a lot of material, but you will get the hang of it quickly. I loved mine!!

  • I was very intimidated at first. Then I did it and said, "Why the f did I not do this three weeks ago!" Seriously, the Moby rocks. I wore it all day every day for almost 6 months.

  • I never got used to it, and DD2 never really liked it. I think it may have been bc I'm only 5'4", and DD2 was a big baby. She was 9 lbs4oz and 21.5" at birth.

  • I never got used to it... DS would be crying and fussing when I was trying to tie it and it took WAY too long for me... by the time I got it, he was usually screaming.

That said, if I was going somewhere where I KNEW I wanted to use the moby, I'd tie it on BEFORE leaving, drive with it on, and then take him out of the carseat (usually asleep) and put him right in the moby.  I used it for that.  But I got my moby for free, so it was a win win, even though I didn't use it that much.

Dear God, Since I couldn't hold my little one in my lap and tell him about you, could you hold him in your lap and tell him about me?

  • I don't think it's that difficult and I was really intimidated at first.  I just searched on youtube for Moby and got a bunch of hits.  That was super helpful for me.  I would love to wear DD in it more often but it's really hot here now for it.  I have worn her through the airport 3 times in it (including last week), and it's still very comfortable for me.  When she was really little, she loved being snuggled up with me and it was a great way for me to get her to nap so I could get things done.

Practice it a few times, and you'll get the hang of it.
