Need to constantly graze to ward off nausea?

I'm experiencing more and more morning sickness (whomever named it morning sickness should be shot - it's all day, every day!)...  I feel better if I am constantly eating a little bit of food here and there - is this normal?  Most posts I read seem to be about people who can't eat at all, and that is most definitely not the case for me.  Am I doomed to gain a billion pounds?   Any other sure fire solutions to helping get rid of the nausea?  Advice gratefully accepted!

  • I am definitely more grazing now than ever before.  It helps to keep the nausea away for me, personally.  If it makes you feel better, I say do it.  As long as you choose your foods wisely, you should be ok!

  • I feel the same way. I get queasy if I go longer than 2-3 hrs without something in me. So I am constantly eating as well. I have been eating healthy sack. Munching on fresh veggies, fruit, crackers. I think your not doomed as long as you not eating snacks high in fat or unhealthy. They actually recommend to eat smaller frequent meals. Not sure if you feel like this but I cannot eat as much at a meal anyways I get full fast. So I get hungry quicker. : ) Ginger ale has been wonderful for me. I am not a pop drinker but when I am a little queasy I end up sipping on it and it helps greatly. I lasts me hours and i end up dumping some out. But its been working for me. Hope it works for you too.

  • OMG, YES! I finished lunch 2 hours ago and just feel ew. I'm not sure if more food or less food would help at this point.

  • I'm constantly grazing. And healthy food is repulsive to me. As is meat. If I go more than 2-3 hours, I want to curl into a ball and cry I feel so sick. I eat 30 minutes before I go to bed, and have to eat the moment I'm up, or I can't move. It is crazy and I hate it. 3 or so weeks until my first trimester is over and hopefully this will go away - glad I'm not the only one, though!

  • I start to feel sick if I go more than 2-3 hours without food, so I usually just munch on a few crackers or something to keep food in my stomach. I'm looking for easy snack options especially when I'm at work, it's hard to be eating all day when you have stuff to do!

Try to make good food choices and keep the grazing down to just what you need so you don't overeat (I felt sick when I pigged out on Saturday). There are always home remedies to try for m/s, you could try those as well to lengthen the time between meals.

Sorry you're feeling sick!! You're not alone!

  • This was the only thing that worked for me with my 1st, and now too.  My dr. even suggested lots of small meals.  My m/s always gets bad if I have an empty stomach.
  • I feel the exact same way. I can't tell if it is this water weight/grazing/growing uterus that is making my belly start to grow already.

  • I was reminded today to graze and not eat a large meal at my appointment by my NP. The unisom + B6 combo really seemed to help keep most of the nausea at bay but she prescribed Zofran "just in case" because she feels the severity of my symptoms is being brought on by the additional progesterone.

  • I have also been "blessed" with constant nausea, but thankfully have yet to throw-up...though sometimes I wish I would. The constant grazing has worked to keep my nausea down. To keep me from gaining soo much weight, I keep healthly snacks around me like mini bell peppers, baby carrots, hummus, frozen fruit (instead of ice cream), air-popped pop corn (add a little salt, chili powder, garlic and onion powder for a tasty treat), salad, jell-o cups, applesauce and granola bars. When I do reach for the not-so-heatlhy stuff like potato chips and cookies, I put a serving into a bowl and leave the package in the cubbord; if I'm still hungry after that, then I'll follow with a healthy snack. I also found sipping on ice, cold water throughout the day helps the nausea too.

  • I feel the same way. If I don't eat often I can feel the nausea start to come on. I try to have snacks around all the time, but like someone else said it's very hard at work. (I work in a NICU and we're not supposed to have food on the unit, so its not always easy to get out for a snack) I've seen a few people mention that the wintergreen lifesavers really help. Today was my first day trying it and I have to say, it did help. I started to wonder if I just wasn't feeling the m/s today, but nope as soon as I got home it has kicked in...

I also found that the Simply Naked pita chips work wonders. I've been eating them instead of saltines or crackers and I enjoy them much better and I think they work better.

  • I have to eat through out the day otherwise I feel awful. However nothing ever sounds good, so it is a constant battle trying to find things to eat that won't make me gag. I also just bought preggie pops and have been sucking on those during my most nauseas times which tend to be the evening.

  • THANK YOU to everybody who posted!  I'm glad that I'm not the only one in this particular boat.  I'm really impressed with those of you who have such healthy snacking habits.  Sadly, my cravings are currently for potato chips (although somebody just posted about their first craving for fried rice and that is sounding more and more delicious the longer I think about it!).  Normally I am a dessert junkie, so on the bright side I'm not diving into chocolate tortes or cheesecakes.  I love the popcorn with savory flavor idea - definitely going to try that out tonight.  Thanks again, and we'll see how bad the grazing is when I get weighed at my next appointment.  So far, I still fit into a size six, so I'm happy with that...
