1st Trimester

Progesterone HELP!!!

My OB called today... my hcg went from 2500-3200, but my progesterone level dropped from 15 to 11 in two days. :( I'm being put on a pill that I have to take nightly. I already suffered one miscarriage... will I still be okay? Anyone gone through this? I'm trying to put my brave face on, but I am really scared.

Re: Progesterone HELP!!!

  • I went off the pill last Nov. I was on it for 10 years. My progesterone levels were in the basement, I am waiting for my test results back from my Dr today. My Dr. said that if it is still low, we have until weeks 10-12 I think to get it up because that is when the placenta really starts to develop. That is when higher progesteron levels are really important.

  • Mine dropped with my last pregnancy so they put me on the suppositories.  Things turned out fine.  I'm also taking them for this pregnancy, but I neve got my levels tested....it was more of a precautionary thing.  Progesterone alone will not "save" a pregnancy, but it won't hurt it either.  It's something you can do to help support the pregnancy and hopefully everything will  turn out fine!  Good luck!

  • Don't worry.  Mine also went down.  Mine went from 24 to 18 and then back up to 30.  I also freaked out but my nurse said that progesterone comes out in pulses so you might just have had a low reading for that day.  The level is impacted by the time of day and what you have had to eat and drink.  Also, my nurse said she would have been worried if my number dropped below 10, so it sounds like you're okay for now and hopefully the progesterone will help.

  • I was placed on progesterone suppositories at five weeks and my Dr. will keep me on them until the end of the 1st trimester.  I will get new blood work in a couple weeks.  She said once the placenta is intact this will take over.  I too had an early m/c and she wanted to be safe.

  • I had a bleeding scare that sent me to the doctor, where blood was taken. The bleeding was actually nothing involving my pregnancy, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. My HCG levels were absolutely fabulous, but my progesterone was low. I was supposed to be at about 12, but was only at around 6. I was put onto the pill. Everything was completely fine after that. My doctor said I could stop taking the pill at about 13 weeks, but I weened myself off it and stopped at 14 weeks just in case.

  • I miscarried this last February and my progesterone was 2 when I rushed to my midwife once I started bleeding. With this pregnancy, my progesterone was at a 9.4 at 5 weeks. I was put on oral progesterone right away and I had my blood drawn 12 hours after beginning them and was up to 27. The pills are supposed to take 24 hours to work, so my body likely did that on its own. I am still on the pills and will stop at 12 weeks. Everything is going fine.

  • I've been using progesterone suppositories since 2 days after my IUI as a precautionary measure.
