Can anyone suggest a good pediatrician? I live in McKinney but I'm willing to drive pretty much anywhere for a pediatrician that is amazing! I have blue cross/blue shield insurance.
We are in McKinney and use Dr. Kelly Smith at All About Children Pediatrics on Eldorado. We picked the practice when DS was born last summer. It is literally like three minutes from our house which is really nice. We started off with a different doctor there and then the practice had some office turnover early this year and our doctor decided to leave to stay home with her kiddos. We almost left for a new doctor/practice but decided to give Dr. Smith a shot before switching since we weren't thrilled with any one else we found. We couldn't be happier! We ended up liking Dr. Smith more than our original doctor. They have meet the doctor nights where you can go check them out before deciding.
Besides liking the doctor two things I really like about the practice are that there is no charge for the nurse line a d I've never waited more than ten minutes for a sick or well visit, and it's usually more like 2 or 3 minute waits. When we thought about switching docs when our first pediatrician quit, the other practice that I looked at was 15 min farther away, had reviews about really long wait times, and charged $15 per call to the nurse line. As a new mom I used the nurse line many times so I was shocked that the other practice did this. Just some other things to consider about a practice when you're looking...
Wow, thanks for the great advice! I too am about 1 mile from Eldorado, so that would be ideal
I've NEVER heard of charging for the nurse line!! It seems like that other practice is encouraging moms to ignore symptoms and signs of illness or worse, use WebMD to self-diagnose!
It's good to know that wait time is under control too. I see an ob/gyn in Plano right now and I always spend 2-3 hours there. Not the end of the world right now, but once I have a baby it will be a real pain.
No problem! My ob is in Frisco and is like that too. I stick with her because I love her and had a really great experience with her for DS. Now that I'm expecting #2 So close behind him in January, I wouldn't consider switching before having this one. I'll put up with the wait times for my doc but I really don't want to deal with crazy wait times for a pediatrician when I've got a sick child on my hands...
She is amazing!! I will say they do charge $10 for the after hours nurse line, but when they are helping me at 3am, I think they deserve that extra $10. I guess I see it as, they are working extra hours to help us, so they should be paid.

We see Dr. Crow (she is the only female in the practice) and we love her. We saw Dr. Nail once (when I was in the hospital right after I had my daughter) he was very nice. He was the doctor on call that weekend and he just check DD and said she looked great and discharged her to go home. So, the only one we really have any experience with is Dr. Crow. She came highly recommended by a friend is a NP in the NICU.

I take my son to Dr. Barksdale at Allen Pediatrics. When he was born she was the on call pedi at the hospital, I was having a hard time with breast feeding and he had jaundice, she was so helpful and kind to me, the only person that didnt make me feel like I was failing at it, so when we left even though the drive wasnt ideal I chose her as his doc and will be using her for my daughter due in Oct.
