Best first birthday gifts?

What were your favorites? I have to go to 3 first birthday parties in the next 3 weeks, one girl and two boys (although I usually don't buy overly gendered gifts anyway). I don't feel like getting clothes because I have a hard time figuring out what size they need because my son was in 9 month clothes at a year, haha!

What's been a big hit and has lasted more than 2 weeks?

Miles still loves his rocking horse, MyPal Scout, and his music table. He is also really into the big mega bloks and, of course, loves his Mickey jammies.

We received the FP school bus and C still loves it. We got the airplane version for a friend also that turned one (but she got two!). Another friend also got C a really simple but nice Dwell Studio puzzle and small set of Haba first blocks. He still plays with both.

Melissa and Doug stacking blocks and the Melissa and Doug sound puzzles were my favorite. Other ideas - mega blocks, books, coloring books, crayons, bath crayons, etc.

DS has been totally obsessed with cars for a while so his favorites are

Other than his cars, the things that get used the most are the basic, classic stuff like sturdy board books (you can NEVER go wrong with a book!), wooden alphabet blocks, simple wooden puzzles, balls, etc. We've found stuff we like on Amazon, at IKEA, and amazingly some good stuff at Target too.

My mom got B a subscription to Babybug magazine.

He also likes his peg puzzles (although he only takes them apart), board books, duplos, and a drum set.

G received a ride-on scooter that has a small keyboard on the front and other buttons to push and play music. She was really into the music for a long time but just sort of into the ride on part of it. Now she's really digging riding on her scooter, so this toy has really gotten some mileage in our house. I think I saw the same one at Target recently.

J loves his Leapfrog ABC fridge magnets. He plays with them every night when I cook dinner.
He really likes the Playskool Busy Gears too. Both would be gender neutral.
