new doc on horizon

I called.my ob practice.to get the name of the mfm they plan to refer me to @20 w and i did get the name, but i also decided to push for an earlier referral. I was outright DENIED. She checked with my ob who said it is not necessary to be seen prior to 20w. Needless to say, this last friday was my last time with HIM and that practice. I called the mfm directly and they will not see me without a referral, so i called my pcp. I may or may not be getting a referral.since she does not have my recent ob records...(and also it is a really small down town and all the docs know all the other ones, so she may not be willing to "not back him up"(as my dh pointed out)...BUT, the secretary at the pcp is a twin mom...so she gave me the name and number of the practice (in a different town) that she used and was very happy with. So...i am really frustrated that it is this freaking difficult to advocate for myself +babies, but glad that it seems like we are getting on the right path. I am so glad i found all you ladies and your info, because otherwise i would be totally.clueless about the fact that i.am getting substandard care.

Re: new doc on horizon

  • Good for you!

I hope the new clinic is more helpful for you. Remember, too, that the old doctor's office is required by law to release your medical records to your new doctor if you ask them to in writing, for the continuation of care. It can save a little money on labwork if you've already had a set of tests done and don't want to do them again.

  • The ball is in motion. I drove to town to sign the form to release my records and also got a copy for myself. They are the most amazingly nondescript, which i hope will work in my favor tk get seen earlier rather than later. It seriously just says "twins" and that is about the most detailed it gets about the fact. It goes into more detail about my labia and vagina! I am hoping that "twins" +ama= a promt appointment (not a single mention of chorionicity whatsoever). I feel a zillion times better that i am on the right path now. Thank you for letting me vent and whine and annoy....this is a crazy time.
  • I don't think anyone here thinks you're whiny lol it can be tough to make some of those decisions on your own when you haven't been through it before! Without support from the boards, I might not have pushed my MFM to do another ultrasound next week before I decide whether or not to go through with having them rip out my ovaries! Now, I've not only got that appointment set up, but I also have the full support of DH to NOT have the surgery unless my cysts seem to be growing at that next scan. He's going to come to all of the appointments with me from here on out so that I have a second voice to advocate for me. Knowing that doctors sometimes DON'T seem to have a good grasp on the situation is something that is hard for a lot of us to accept, and those confidence boosts we get from conversations here are necessary and beneficial.

  • I was glad to see that you were so well informed about getting rescanned prior to committing to the surgery. You seem to be pretty wise about doing your research and advocating for yourself. It IS really hard to think that the almighty doctors don't know everything. I learned about that when i was ttc my dd with an "infertility specialist" (we live in a small town and the nearest actual RE was over 2 hours away so saw the next best thing-ha!). Everyone i have said anything to about this thinks i am this crazy mom who wants the dr. to do something completely way unnecessary b/c i am psycho....but i am really not. This board has really helped to validate that i am not being unreasonable.
