What were your favorites? I have to go to 3 first birthday parties in the next 3 weeks, one girl and two boys (although I usually don't buy overly gendered gifts anyway). I don't feel like getting clothes because I have a hard time figuring out what size they need because my son was in 9 month clothes at a year, haha!
What's been a big hit and has lasted more than 2 weeks?

Re: Best first birthday gifts?
Melissa and Doug stacking blocks and the Melissa and Doug sound puzzles were my favorite. Other ideas - mega blocks, books, coloring books, crayons, bath crayons, etc.
Elliott is still in love with his Mickey Mouse ride-on toy bus. He plays with it every.single.day.
Other big hits from his gifts: My Pal Scout, MegaBlocks, and Books (especially the touchy-feely kind)
Thank you for the suggestions, but I just had to quote you to say that I LOVE your new siggy of E. He looks so happy to be eating his ice cream!
DS has been totally obsessed with cars for a while so his favorites are
this
and these
and this
Other than his cars, the things that get used the most are the basic, classic stuff like sturdy board books (you can NEVER go wrong with a book!), wooden alphabet blocks, simple wooden puzzles, balls, etc. We've found stuff we like on Amazon, at IKEA, and amazingly some good stuff at Target too.
Blocks, any kind.
The Leapfrog Fridge ABC magnets. (Good price point for b-days too, $20 at Target.)

Aw, thanks! Aren't we all that happy when there's a big bowl of ice cream in front of us?
This exactly.

My mom got B a subscription to Babybug magazine.
He also likes his peg puzzles (although he only takes them apart), board books, duplos, and a drum set.

He really likes the Playskool Busy Gears too. Both would be gender neutral.
This is definitely one of DS' favorite toys. Melissa & Doug stacking train...it's about $14. He also loves his Mega Blocks.
The Potsy the talking pot, the Megablocks, and a push popper toy are still favorites! Books of course.
