Venting!

I am having my baby shower next weekend at 25 weeks, for several reasons (moving the following weekend and obviously because I'm expecting twins). My partner's extended family has expressed extreme disapproval of having the shower so early, and seriously asked us to change the date today!! I'm so frustrated between PTL, being on bed rest and procardia, and having to move in 2 weeks & switch doctors. They suggest that I come  2.5 hours (one-way) at a later date. I'm not absurd for being furious, right?

    Don't know if anyone is Puerto Rican on this board, but the disapproval stems from a superstition that it is bad luck to have baby shower early. I can't take someone's requests seriously when their argument is based on a superstition.

    Don't bother even answering them.  They obviously don't get it.   A baby shower on Monday is strange though.

    you're not absurd.

    Someone made some kind of snide comment to me at my shower, at 25 weeks, about how early it was. I just told them that most people don't understand multiple pregnancies....

    They don't get it....heck I was already on hospital bedrest at 25 weeks, good thing I had my shower at 23 weeks LOL. I would not change your plans at all.

    Not Monday, it's next weekend. :) I couldn't answer them because I knew I would explode.

    Ugh! I'm sorry they're not being supportive! Do NOT change your plans... you have the perfect scenario for an early shower. I'm having my shower at 30 weeks and I've had comments from people wondering why it's so early. I just shake my head and tell myself they don't get it.

    I would be aggrevated too. People dont realize w/ multiples the earlier the better for the shower because it can be so unpredictable. My grandma was the same way saying how it's bad luck and such....also my MIL wanted to throw me a seperate shower based on when she wasn't out of town/ what met her needs. I did not let that fly. I made it clear that I only wanted to have one shower given that my pregnancy was such a difficult one and that it was at 26 weeks. Thank god I had it then because by 28 weeks I was having horrible Braxton hicks and put on minor bed rest so I would have not been able to get organized after the shower if it was any later.  My girls also came early at 32 w 5 d. So it worked out for the best.
