acura mdx/chicco keyfit carseats

Hi,

we are thinking of getting the acura mdx.  our plan was to get the chicco keyfit 30 and install side by side (behind the driver). this would allow us (we think) to be able to more easily pull forward the passenger side back seat, so that someone could get to the 3rd row of seats without removing a base.

1) has anyone put a chicoo keyfit base on the passenger side backseat of the acura mdx- and if so, are you still able to lift that seat up so someone can get into the back? or do you ahve to remove the base entirely in order to move that seat and get into the back seats of the SUV?

2. has anyone actually installed the keyfit bases side by side and been able to fit both infant car seats in there next to each other?

thanks for your help!

Re: acura mdx/chicco keyfit carseats

  • You should be able to. I had a MDX before I traded for my mini van :) and we had 3 Graco Snugrides across.

  • Well, although I don't know specifically about an Acura, after we shopped tirelessly for a carseat to fit behind my husband (who's 6'2) in our Dodge Journey (SUV crossover), and ruled out buying a new car. We DID go to Target, took two Chicco Keyfits and installed them side by side, one behind front passenger seat and one in the middle (leaving the spot behind my husband open). The only way you will know is to test drive the Acura, take it to a store with the carseats and test it out. Best for peace of mind I think. :)
  • I don't know how much the depth of the back seat has changed, as ours is an older MDX but we could only find one infant seat that would fit behind MH in the drivers seat and he is only 6'0. I don't even remember the brand, it was not one we had heard of (and we ran into the same problem w/ the convertible when we moved up but luckily at the time Britax was making a smaller sized convertible that only goes to 40 lbs so we were able to get that).  MH could drive to work and short distances but was quite uncomfortable on long trips in the car w/ a seat back there. I'm short so it never mattered for me.

We went to Buy Buy Baby b/c they had the best selection and put all the seats back there & basically chose the one that allowed MH to be able to drive the most comfortably, as they are all safety tested, etc.  GL- hope they've changed the depth of the back seat since then. Re the use of the 3rd row, I can't imagine the seat wouldn't fold back w/ just a base installed but I'm not sure.

  • We have an MDX but haven't had 2 Chicco seats in at the same time.  We had the Chicco keyfit and Britax Marathon at the same time, and the Chicco was in the passenger seat and Britax behind the driver.  Now we have 2 Marathons in the back, but they are not next to each other either.  We haven't really used the 3rd row too much, but we enter through the trunk.  Not sure if this helps at all.  Now with 4 kids, the MDX is too small so we have to look for something bigger.
