Anyone heard of this? Red Bumps

LO started getting small red bumps on her chest and stomach last night. She also had an *underarm* fever of 102. I gave her Ibuprofen and put her to bed.

This morning, her bumps seem to have gotten worse, but have mostly disappeared from her chest, and are concentrating on her hip (only one side). I took her rectal temp (she had no fever) but her head and chest were still really warm. I took another underarm temp and she had a slight fever of 101. I called the doc for an apt and we are going this afternoon.

Has anyone heard of this?

It almost seems like an allergic reaction or rash, but she hasn't eaten any new foods and I stay home with her, so I know she hasn't been exposed to anything new. The only thing I can think of is that we tried a LUVs diaper for the last few days, but still alternate with Pampers. It doesn't seem to be caused by her diaper though, because it isn't all the way around her bottom. Also, if it was her diaper, why would it be on her chest?

The bumps almost look like diaper rash.

My dad had Shingles a month ago, but we kept LO away until the doc said he wasn't contagious (3 weeks), and even then my mom sterilized the house. It doesn't look like chicken pox (same virus).

Re: Anyone heard of this? Red Bumps

  • My LO had the same thing this weekend, but his fever was Tuesday & Wednesday and then the rash showed on Saturday & Sunday.  It looked exactly like an allergic reaction and today he seems fine.  Since our dr. isn't in on Saturday, we just kept an eye on it and made sure it didn't get worse or his breathing was getting bad.  I'm pretty convinced it was a virus or some bug working its way out and ended with the "hives.". Today he is pretty much 100% himself.  I hope your LO gets through this too.  It's scary, but lots of cuddling and worrying later, we made it through it.

  • Do you think it could be Hand, Foot and Mouth disease?  Evelyn's got little red bumps all over, including around her diaper area, and a couple of larger ones that look sort of like mosquito bites.  It starts with a fever and then the rash.  I probably wouldn't have known what it was but one of her little friends had it last week.
  • google roseola. Sounds like that. Very common and passes quickly. It's a virus that most kids get before 2 y/o
