Pediatrician interview questions?

Doing my first interview in a few days.  Being a home birth mamma, I'm sure I should ask different questions than some might.  I know I need to ask about the process in terms of what they will do that will usually be done at the hospital.  I need to ask about circumcision and I guess I'll ask about shots, although I'm not anti-vax and really don't have an opinion on spreading them out.  What else do I need to ask about?

Re: Pediatrician interview questions?

  • Office hours and after-hours support, how long it takes to get a sick appointment... honestly, DS just goes to my family doctor because I already went there.

  • Ask about their BFing rates. How many of their moms and babies are still BF at 6 months, 12 months. What kind of support do they offer? Is there an LC on staff? If baby is slow to gain/jaundiced/etc, what will the advice be?

  • I'd ask about their after hours if you need to reach him/her. I'd let them know you are planning a home birth. Some doctors will not take a child if they were delivered at home (crazy right?)

  • I was hoping to just take him to my family doctor, but she just moved and now I'm looking for a doc for me too!
